Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Streets

Welcome to WikiProject Canada Streets. Some Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Canadian Streets and the organization of information and articles on this topic. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

Scope edit

The scope of this project is two-fold:

  • To cover city streets that are not covered by WikiProject Canada Roads
  • To cover local (non-city) streets that are not covered by WikiProject Canada Roads. This includes numbered roads in the Ontario cities of Windsor, Hamilton, and Ottawa, but not county and regional roads in other jurisdictions.

Anything streets that are covered by the Canada Roads WikiProject should remain in that project and not in not this project. Municipal expressways are generally covered by WikiProject Canada Roads, but can be also tagged by the streets project; however, they should use infobox road and follow the standards for highway articles.

Goals edit

The main goal of this project is to work on city and local streets that do not fall under the scope of the Canada Roads WikiProject and get them to Featured articles on Wikipedia. By removing these articles from the scope of WikiProject Canada Roads, that not only clarifies what both projects are intended for, but creates a forum for users from city projects (such as WikiProject Toronto, WikiProject Vancouver) and the other roads projects.

Guidelines edit

Notability guidelines edit

Streets are generally not notable. To be considered notable, the street should pass one of the following criteria:

  • The street has become synonymous with an industry or organization (Bay Street),
  • The street was the site of an important historical event,
  • The street has been mentioned by name in a major motion picture, song, television show, or other mainstream media (De Grassi Street, for example)
  • The street has been the subject of a documentary or an article in a major media source.
  • It is otherwise notable, as described at Wikipedia:Notability.
