03:50:22, 8 July 2017 review of draft by California Historian

edit

Hi,

I am creating an article entitled "Sidney H. Chang" and for some reason several fields in the Infobox are not shown in the actual article once I save the changes. I need to complete the article as soon as possible and submit it to the editors before it can be moved to the main Wikipedia space. Also a bot has deleted Sidney H. Chang's photo that I uploaded. It was taken in December 1979, and I clearly identified the date and place where the photo was taken. Please review the article and help resolve these issues. Thank you very much!

California Historian (talk) 03:50, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi California Historian. For the infobox fields to show up, the names of the fields have to be exactly as in the infobox documentation, Template:Infobox academic/doc. I've made the adjustment for you. A claim of fair use may not be used to justify the inclusion of a copyrighted photo in a draft. If and when the draft is accepted and moved into article space, then fair use will apply and a photo may be added. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:20, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

THEN TELL US WHY YOU ARE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE BELOW THIS LINE. Take as many lines as you need. -->}} We have had an article we have prepared on the Papua and New Guinea Development Bank removed and we would like to know why. We have been told that it needs further substantiation from other sources but we have provided details of the only sources that we are aware of - copies of the Bank's Annual Reports which have been submitted initially to the Australian Government's Parliament and then after Papua New Guinea gained its independence in Sept 1975, to the Parliament of Papua New Guinea. In addition, we referred to a book which was published two year ago. We can't make up other sources if they don't exist or are not available. WIKIDYM (talk) 06:22, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WIKIDYM. The annual reports and book are reliable sources, but they are not independent of the company. (The editor of the book was deputy managing director, wasn't he?) If there are no arms-length reliable sources, then the bank should not be the subject of a Wikipedia article. But before giving up, try searching Trove. Press releases aren't independent, but what about the articles in Pacific Islands Monthly? Searches of academic databases like JSTOR may also be fruitful, although you might have to visit a good library or ask at WP:RX to access the full text. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:54, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If the indepnedent source for an article is a small local newspaper, which is not available online, how can I submit it? As a scan or JPG? Or what? Rushwarp (talk) 22:40, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rushwarp (talk) 22:40, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rushwarp. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. And no, you don't need to upload any scans. You can cite the newspaper itself as the source, so long as you include the essential bibliographic details (such as the name and place of publication, dates, authors, page numbers, etc.). All of this is made much easier if you use the {{cite newspaper}} template. But I think there's a more basic problem that citing a small local newspaper. If it is really true that a new Danish micro-nation has been declared, why isn't this being covered by the major Danish papers and web sites? And why doesn't this new micronation have its own web site? You're leaving me wondering whether a declaration of "micro-nation" status has really been made. I'll be very interested in hearing your response. NewYorkActuary (talk) 23:45, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks The micronation will be 'official' on 12th June. The website: tasbackaland.dk and tasbackaland.com are registered in my name already but not yet active. The newspaper article will be publsihed in about 12 days. At that time I will resubmit and make a new edit ith sources.

Do you mean 12 June or 12 July? Robert McClenon (talk) 23:59, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If I have linked Every Campus A Refuge's wiki page onto Guilford College's Wikipedia page will that make my page no longer an orphan document?

Nmmoore (talk) 23:28, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nm. That's right -- it's no longer an orphan and you can remove the banner that says it is. I took a look at the addition to the Guilford College article and saw that it could do with a good trimming. Because you're providing a link to the new article, the program's description really doesn't need to be more than one sentence long. And you should remove the red-link, as well. NewYorkActuary (talk) 23:33, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've done the trimming. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:56, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
