January 23 edit

00:53:57, 23 January 2017 review of submission by Vtsound edit

Hi there. This is my first ever submission for the musician Irene Kepl. This was done since she is one of the main international guests at Soundout Canberra and I was surprised she hasn't had an article, yet. So, I tried to find the most information possible, utilising a lot of google translate to understand the German websites, so if anyone who actually speaks German can look over this and check if I made major mistakes, that would be appreciated. Also, I tried to mimic other musicians pages in structuring, but this is tedious and I actually have a festival to prepare, too. So, any help of editing the structure to be even more wikipedia-like would be very welcome. Thanks, VorTex Vtsound (talk) 00:53, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Vtsound. Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. Our apologies for the great delay in response. In a few minutes, I'll leave some comments on the Talk page of your Draft. NewYorkActuary (talk) 22:12, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The draft was declined by Zppix because "This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia". I also was not answered in more detail, which elements of the text is the issue regarding this "advertisement vs. encyclopedia" requirement.

The reviewer suggested to post my question here about why the draft's content was declined and how to improve it: "You are encouraged to make improvements by clicking on the "Edit" tab at the top of this page. If you require extra help, please ask a question on the Articles for creation help desk"

So could you please recommend how to improve the draft or provide me some examples of similar articles which are OK with this "advertisement vs. encyclopedia" requirement. Oleg Sergeykin (talk) 11:55, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Oleg Sergeykin - Do you have a connection with the company? Your only edits have been about that draft. As to reading like an advertisement, have third parties (independent sources) written about the subject? The draft reads as if its objective is to promote the product. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:11, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Robert McClenon!
"Do you have a connection with the company? Your only edits have been about that draft."
Yes, and I declared COI on my user page before creating the article. It is a quite common practice on Wikipedia. It is not prohibited by Wikipedia rules (as long as COI is declared).
"As to reading like an advertisement, have third parties (independent sources) written about the subject?"
Yes, there are links from very respectable independent websites in the draft references:
For example, there are 4 references from respectable sites, where ShrinkTheWeb products are listed together with its main competitors, so it is really independent sources:
Other references which describe only one ShrinkTheWeb product per reference are also from respectable sites.
ShrinkTheWeb products are also described in 2 printed books:
  • Carr, Kelby (May 8, 2012). Pinterest For Dummies (1st ed.). John Wiley & Sons.
  • Diamond, Stephanie (May 8, 2013). The Visual Marketing Revolution: 26 Rules to Help Social Media Marketers. Que Publishing.
Most of ShrinkTheWeb CMS plugin pages (WordPress, Drupal, Dolphin etc) listed in the references are somehow connected with the company but this pages also contain users feedback and statistics, which are independent of the company, so these feedback and statistics sections of these pages are also independent sources - that's why I listed them as references also.
"The draft reads as if its objective is to promote the product."
My objective was to compile noteworthy information about the company and its products from reputable independent sources for those who would seek it. All the content of the article seems to me as a set of objective facts, not subjective opinions - if you think some phrase in the text is just an opinion or exaggeration, please point me to the phrase, so that I can fix it.
The text of the draft seems to me much more neutral, and reference materials - much more independent compared to the Wikipedia article about ShrinkTheWeb's main competitor (Cloudinary/URL2PNG) - Cloudinary . And without the article about ShrinkTheWeb, it hurts Wikipedia's credibility as an unbiased reference.
That's why I am asking about more specific recommendations about how to improve the draft or about articles which I should use as an example.Oleg Sergeykin (talk) 05:58, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Could someone from Wikipedia Help desk give me a meaningful answer on my two questions which I asked in my initial post:

1) please recommend how to improve the draft or

2) provide me some examples of similar articles which are OK with this "advertisement vs. encyclopedia" requirement.

Zppix noted (while declining the draft) on User talk:Oleg Sergeykin: "Hello! Oleg Sergeykin, I noticed your article was declined at Articles for Creation, and that can be disappointing. If you are wondering why your article submission was declined, please post a question at the Articles for creation help desk."

And answer from Robert McClenon is not a meaningful answer, it is only a set of questions to which I gave quite adequate answers.

So could someone give me that meaningful answer on my questions? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oleg Sergeykin (talkcontribs) 03:31, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Oleg Sergeykin: I've copied this discussion over to the draft's Talk page, which will be a more appropriate place to hold the discussion. NewYorkActuary (talk) 23:38, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What is the question? That article is in article space. If you have a question about it, you may ask the question here or at the Teahouse. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:05, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
