December 30 edit

09:53:01, 30 December 2017 review of submission by Okolokolo edit

I would appreciate a review of the submission, which was earlier declined, and possible editing if necessary. I believe that the subject easily passes the notability test: he is one of Nigeria's biggest indigenous entrepreneurs. I have included links of coverage on various national media which are considered reputable in Nigeria.

The last reviewer declined the submission on the basis that the links seemed to be more about his companies than him. I have since added a couple of links that were more about him. These were news items published in Nigerian national news media.

Thank you. Okolokolo (talk) 09:53, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do I add a photo to a page? Do I need to save a headshot to Flickr Commons?

@LWeidel: before you spend any time embellishing your autobiography with a photo, you first need to tackle the issue of notability. As you will have read in the note that Worldbruce wrote on your talk page a couple of days ago in the section "Please don't write about yourself", autobiographies are particularly problematic on Wikipedia. As someone who needs to promote oneself in order to make a living, it is natural that you might want there to be a Wikipedia article about yourself. However Wikipedia has criteria that are used to determine which individuals should have an encyclopedia article about them, and which should not. You should familiarise yourself with WP:NBIO and ensure that your draft shows that others entirely independent of you have written articles about you in reliable publications. You need to add references to such sources, and a reviewer will evaluate them to establish whether the coverage is sufficiently in depth and the publication is independent and reliable. I recommend this guide to help you identify such sources. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 17:58, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Good day, I was told that my references weren't enough to show notability. I am about to add some more referenced, but wanted to show them to you first to see if they are acceptable

None of the sources listed above leap out as good ones. For the purposes of demonstrating notability you'll want to avoid commercial sites that have an interest in promoting the subject (e.g. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, audible, itunes), primary source interviews where she talks about herself without analysis by the interviewer, user-generated sources (e.g. IMDb and Wikipedia), self-published blogs, brief mentions in listings that don't contain in-depth information about her, and sources that link to copyright violations on YouTube. The quality of sources is much more important than quantity. It is also essential that you declare any conflict of interest you have in regard to writing about the subject. --Worldbruce (talk) 01:58, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
