I am writing an article about an gentleman who was a very prominent and prolific author - however most of his works are in his local vernacular - telugu and many are more than a decade old, there are no reliable references for most of these titles on the internet.
Can I use photographs of the books as a reference ?
Similarly can photographs be used as a reference in general?

- Reply - No, photographs cannot be used as references. You will need to provide in-depth third-party references written about him in order to assert he is notable. These do not need to be in English though. Isingness (talk) 02:19, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Anisha647: You don't need references (photographic or otherwise) to show authorship/editorship of a book. The book itself demonstrates authorship. Just supply the bibliographic detail: title, year of publication, publisher, and if at all possible one of ISBN, OCLC, or LCCN. I've done this for you in the "popular works" section. You should do the same in "Editorial work". In general you wouldn't use a photograph as a reference, but you might use the object photographed as a reference. For example, a photograph of a historic marker or other sign is not a reference, but the marker or sign itself is. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:17, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Could you be so kind and create a Wiki-page for a noble person Gene Montague Phillips? I tried, but it seems I'm too far away from writing an article Here's the ONLY information I got for this man:
http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/staugustine/obituary.aspx?pid=180580557
If you can put more information, that'd be great! Thanks

- Hello, IP address. Thank you for your interest in Wikipedia. The place to ask for someone to write an article is WP:Requested articles. But I don't wish to give you false hope -- I think it very unlikely that anyone there will volunteer to write an article about someone for whom the only source material is an obituary from a local newspaper. Your much better option is to seek out instances of reliable in-depth coverage of Mr. Phillips by sources that are independent of him and his family (and the obituary probably doesn't meet those criteria, because the information in it was almost certainly derived directly from his family and not subject to independent journalistic fact-checking). I hope this response has been helpful. Good luck with the search for sources. NewYorkActuary (talk) 19:11, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
