The most viewed articles for October 2003, derived from historical data.
In 2002-2004, "en.wikipedia.org/stats" and later "wikimedia.org/stats/en.wikipedia.org" posted monthly data on viewing statistics derived from Webalizer. The October 2003 report (preserved at archive.org [1]) included a list of the Top 100 most requested URLs. This was an increase from prior monthly reports, which only listed the top 30 URLS.
After removing non-article pages (but keeping the Main Page, which we normally exclude from the Top 25 Report), the below list was created and commentary added in November 2016:

3. 20711 The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything - This article first became very popular in the August 2003 chart, probably because it was absurdly comprehensive for the time.
