The text at Category:American novelist, 20th-century birth stubs says that it is a parent-only category, so it is not appropriate to have a stub template which places stubs into that category directly. The appropriate template to use, when birth decade is unknown, is {{US-novelist-stub}}. PamD 23:15, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
