This template was last nominated for deletion a year ago. Primefac, in closing, said there was no prejudice to a future nomination once we could evaluate how the merged template was performing.

And as far as the template's performance goes… literally nothing has changed in the wording or the use of the template in the past year. Last year, Mjroots demonstrated that over half of the uses of the template were almost certainly inappropriate, and not only does that proportion hold up, many of those same articles still have the template.

As I mentioned in the previous TfD, "over the years, the needle has swung worryingly towards censoring of embarrassing information in the public record about public individuals, both on- and off-Wikipedia", and this template serves primarily to scare editors into not editing. Same as it ever was, really; the template was first used to dissuade editors from discussing the inclusion of a Catholic cardinal's conviction for child sexual offences.

If there are actual legal issues with editing, then as I said a year ago, that's for the WMF to deal with themselves, not for drive-by editors to effectively make legal threats. Sceptre (talk) 18:58, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Additional comment from nominator: I didn't mention this in the original nomination as it slipped my mind, but I also fear this template is a BLP disaster waiting to happen. For a hypothetical case, take the Conservative MP arrested for rape a few months ago. Because of the small sample space, it's very easy to deduce who said MP is based on the information provided – a process known as "jigsaw identification". However, tagging the talk page for said MP's article would in itself be jigsaw identification. Rather than head off contempt of court at the pass, anyone adding it might find they're doing it themselves. Sceptre (talk) 23:26, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This template is for stubs in Category:Cinema of Nigeria and was deliberately created for that purpose while {{Nigeria-film-stub}} are for stubs in Category:Nigerian film stubs.

This template is for stubs in Category:Nigerian film directors and was deliberately created for that purpose while {{Nigeria-film-stub}} are for stubs in Category:Nigerian film stubs.

Stubs in Category:Nigerian film directors already have a stub template, {{Nigeria-film-director-stub}}, as mentioned above, which places articles into the Category:African film director stubs.   •   Comment: I'm not sure I agree with that definition of a redundant template. A near-identical call syntax w.r.t. the parent template would perhaps count as redundant in my view, but in this case the syntax is significantly simpler than using the parent template. By that logic, wouldn't e.g. {{nutshell}} be redundant with {{mbox}}? The fact that it doesn't get much use is an orthogonal concern (but then again, I'd counter that with WP:NOTPAPER and WP:PERF). Of course I'm biased in this, but IMHO there's no significant benefit in deleting the template, compared to the loss of convenience doing so would cause. --Waldyrious (talk) 18:46, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
