April 12 edit

Template:WikiProject Floods edit

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template(s) or module(s) below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was delete. I don't see an issue here provided consensus to merge the projects has already occurred (which based on a cursory glance is the case). Most bot operators who work on WikiProject tags will take care of this without going through TFD under that precondition, so consider skipping the bureaucracy for the next cases. Specific parametrizations

Proposing that the below templates be changed by bot (the thousands of article talkpages involved) to the correct project and subsequently deleted. The current status has errors and may cause future problems. Not to mention it was and still is improper to use substitutions instead of changing a wikiproject talkpage banner. NoahTalk 23:18, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Will take care of this with PearBOT 4 if there's consensus. My question is how these should be handled after the replacement. Deletion? Redirection? Subst-only wrapper? --Trialpears (talk) 11:38, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thing is, we are getting ready to merge WP Severe Weather, WP Tropical cyclone, and WP Non-tropical storms into one weather project soon. Targetting to WP Severe weather would be pointless. NoahTalk 12:30, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, OK, that makes sense. I was wondering why there were so many wikiprojects with overlapping focus. In that case Substitute as suggested. I think the best use of these after that would be to turn them into a subst only wrapper. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 12:51, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another "hybrid template" by JsfasdF252 which does completely different things depending upon which namespace this is in, in the same style as these templates which were deleted last week. In talk namespaces this produces a wikiproject banner, in articles it produces an infobox. This has been made by including an entire copy of the infobox code and an entire copy of wikiproject banner code, which means if those templates are ever updated this will diverge from them. This was for 10 years a redirect to the wikiproject banner, I propose that this should be turned back into a redirect, it's doccumentation page deleted and this edit which introduced it into article space be reverted. 86.23.109.101 (talk) 23:06, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree. These "hybrid" templates are not a good idea. User:GKFXtalk 07:06, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, let's delete it altogether, it only has one use as a redirect. User:GKFXtalk 07:14, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would support outright deletion, it's a rather ambiguous name for a redirect that was poorly used to begin with. I've replaced the single use in project space with a direct link, now there are only 2 usages in user sandboxes, one on an obvious test page, one in an external links section (where it shouldn't be used as either a banner or infobox). 86.23.109.101 (talk) 12:12, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template consists only of three people who are all closely related and already linked on each other's articles, rendering the template redundant in terms of navigation. 2601:241:300:B610:B9D4:9EDF:4742:7D1 (talk) 02:15, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The template only has three individuals linked, severely limiting its usefulness. 2601:241:300:B610:B9D4:9EDF:4742:7D1 (talk) 02:05, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
