The last TfD discussion closed as deprecate since it was still in use. It no longer is after Plastikspork orphaned it last year. Due to all the problems discussed at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2010 March 20#Template:De and others this template shouldn't be used anymore and deletion would be the best way to make sure it isn't. ‑‑Trialpears (talk) 10:54, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Continue to discourage use; keep so old revisions display properly with the appropriate attribution. –xenotalk 11:04, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - each template deleted at TfD has history and once deleted old revisions might not display properly, yet this system is here despite those concerns. If that was a valid rational for keep then we wouldn't be able to delete anything. This is unused, deprecated for over 4 years, and even back then was leaning to delete. It's about time. --Gonnym (talk) 13:56, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Attribution is a requirement of our Creative Commons license, so breaking attribution without an identified reason is a non-starter. Is there any evidence that new instances of Iw-ref are still being added? –xenotalk 14:34, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:xeno, the outcome was that all the {{iw-ref}} were moved from the article to the talk page as {{translated page}}, so the attribution isn't really broken any more than it was broken by moving it from the article to the talk page. if you want to find the most recent uses of this template, you can search the edit summaries for AnomieBOT for "Iw-ref". I tried to do this with one of the external tools but it didn't work for me, and I got tired of searching manually after about 1 week of edits (the bot makes a ton of edits every day). that being said, I don't see any harm in keeping it around since it is automatically substituted, and I believe the bot also moves it to the talk page, but I'm not certain about that part. Frietjes (talk) 14:55, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Unused in article space. Broken display of deleted templates in revision histories is inevitable when deleting any template, and is not an issue. Furthermore, attribution is done in the revision histories per our terms of service and guidelines, and each edit invoking this template continues to be recorded there. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 16:25, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the re-assurance re: attribution Frietjes and Finnusertop. I still don't see that anything is gained in deletion (as mentioned by Frietjes). If the intent is to "reduce confusion", introducing redlinked template calls in old revisions adds more confusion than an unused template. –xenotalk 17:54, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete a template being unused is a sufficient reason for deletion in and of itself. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:21, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
