Template:Balochistan National Party/meta/shortname edit

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was Withdrawn. (non-admin closure) Pkbwcgs (talk) 10:10, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unused template. Pkbwcgs (talk) 12:49, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: Balochistan National Party (BNP) is a major regional party which got split into multiple offshoots plus a lot of sources still list Balochistan National Party (Mengal) (BNP (M)) as BNP so there is a confusion around the proper name of the party. There is a possibility that we might decide to use BNP instead of BNP (M)! Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 18:14, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SheriffIsInTown: You have not addressed why a shortname template is required in this case. The contents for this template are "BNP". Why is this required? I also would like to know what will you do to make use of this template. Shortname templates come very frequently to TfD and they are useless. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:05, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pkbwcgs: Oh yes, I thought you knew why short name templates are created for political parties and how they are used and that is why you are putting them for deletion but it looks like you have no clue about their usage. You should not be putting them for deletion without understanding the purpose for these templates. As for the usage is concerned, these templates are used inside Template:Election box to list the election results for that specific party and that is what this template will be used for potentially. Please do not list templates for deletion without understanding their purpose first! Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 21:23, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SheriffIsInTown: Can't you just say "BNP" instead of creating a whole new template for that and a TfD discussion from the beginning of 2018 resulted in the deletion of multiple shortname templates. Pkbwcgs (talk) 21:30, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pkbwcgs: No, because it goes along with the color template and party article. Template provides us with a functionality in which we just have to enter the name of the party in election box template and it links to the article, translates into the short name and adds the color. Templates provide editors an ease of use and without short name and color template, we lose election box template's ease of use. Believe me we are not just stupid to create these templates instead of just typing "BNP". It is more than just typing "BNP". Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:03, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as a part of a massive series of thousands of meta templates under Category:Political party shortname templates, which are used by Template:Infobox election, Election box series of templates. @Pkbwcgs, you appear to be unfamiliar with this series, but it is one of the building blocks off en.wps's coverage of elections. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:22, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per BHG, and also keep related active nominations (of which there are 2 - 3 additional). --Tom (LT) (talk) 00:35, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • keep so long as Template:Balochistan National Party/meta/color exists. the shortname and color templates are typically created in pairs. not all templates use both, but there is no reason to delete one unless you are deleting both. Frietjes (talk) 17:05, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was no consensus to delete, though move to Template:Botswana English. Galobtter (pingó mió) 05:32, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unused template and Batswana English does not even exist as an article for a start. Pkbwcgs (talk) 13:50, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. --Tom (LT) (talk) 00:56, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: Botswana English is the name of an English dialect spoken in Botswana. This template could be useful for articles that are written in this dialect. Jarble (talk) 04:10, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If kept, move (without leaving a redirect) to Template:Botswana English, which is what the vast majority of sources use for the variant. UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:57, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • delete or move without redirect per above. Frietjes (talk) 17:06, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
