Template:H (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Ĥĥ Ȟȟ Ḧḧ Ḣḣ Ḩḩ Ḥḥ Ḫḫ H̱ẖ Ħħ Ⱨⱨ Ɦɦ ꞕ are all letters that look like h that could be using this template but this template only does ḥ. I think this template should include all of them somehow, or It should be a shortcut for template:highlight (or it could be deleted completely). — BrandonALF ^(talk) ^{(Please ping me)} 13:51, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Most of these letters are quite obscure, and Ḥ is probably the only one that sees wide use (particularly in transliterations of Sanskrit or Arabic). – Uanfala (talk) 14:46, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally, we wouldn't want to have that template at this title: the title is too short and generic and has no intuitive connection to the template's function; also, it is not part of a series: there aren't similar templates for other common symbols like ṭ. The best course of action is to move it to a clearer title like Template:H. (assuming there aren't uses of h. as an abbreviation that would conflict with that). Should a redirect be left behind? Ideally, we would want the people who have used that template to start using it with the new name, so that the old title is freed up, potentially to be claimed for a shortcut to a more general template (though I'm not sure if {{highlight}} is the one here). But also, we wouldn't want to add additional hoops to jump through for people who might use the template (it's meant to be substed, so we don't know how many there are), so it's probably best if the redirect is replaced with an error message saying something like "Template:h is deprecated.
