We don't need this template for several reasons:

  • Such warning is already covered by the WP:General disclaimer and WP:Legal disclaimer, we don't need to put disclaimers at every single page.
  • We have no way to know that a page is used by lawyers in capital cases except when the media reports, and then it's too late.
  • All pages should be edited responsibly, not just those that may be used in capital cases. Vanjagenije (talk) 08:15, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Frietjes: Standard two-track deletion tactics: the nominator removed it from Capital punishment in Texas four minutes before posting this. Note that my citation explaining the Wikipedia article was used by the unsuccessful and allegedly "utterly incompetent" defense attorney says he was scheduled to be executed July 27, so the relevance of that as reason for taking it out is unclear.   • Reason for the template: as I wrote at the documentation page, "Formally, the purpose of this template is to alert editors that they could be placed in the situation where a man's life depends on their edits. It is possible that those who misinterpreted or neglected a point of law, even not being lawyers, might feel traumatized by the use of their good faith edits in this way. Future editors may be inspired to make a comprehensive article lawyers can actually rely on. In reality, of course, the aspect of hilarity dominates: when the answer to "Is this a joke or is it real?" is truly "There's no difference", that is when humor is at its finest. Texas has killed this man for no expressible benefit save for public amusement; let us have our money's worth."
