This template seems to be excessively used to provide identical text across several articles when it seems that text is either incorrect or is not needed in its own separate template. These are the changes I made and frankly it just seems like we can substitute this across the project and not lose much. —Ryūlóng (琉竜) 18:22, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't care if it gets deleted but I believe your main issue with the template is Version A ({{Nihongo3|lit. Great Detective Conan, officially translated as ''Detective Conan''|名探偵コナン|Meitantei Conan}}) vs Version B ({{Nihongo|''Detective Conan''|名探偵コナン|Meitantei Konan}}). As the prime editor to the series, I believe Version A is the better version for a general reader. I've decided to leave this to Wikiproject Japan's consensus (Possibly A/M too if not enough participants) on what should replace this template. - That's the same as making Kuroko's Basketball's Japanese name into {{Nihongo|''The Basketball Which Kuroko Plays''|黒子のバスケ|Kuroko no Basuke}}. The accuracy crashes. There is no rule against Version A. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 21:48, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- The fact is that "Kuroko's Basketball" is the English licensed name (and also a better translation) where "The Basketball Which Kuroko Plays" is the English translation within Japan. Case Closed is "Detective Conan" in Japan. Whether or not "Meitantei" is "Great Detective" is irrelevant considering the translation is inherently the same. Not to mention it should have always been "Meitantei Konan" but this is not the point here. The point is that you don't need this template to repeat any sort of text like this across the project. You do not need that massive version you're putting out there on every Case Closed article.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 22:25, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I never said to keep the template. It's boiled down to whether it should be replaced with version A or B. Like Kuroko, Detective Conan is the translation in Japan. Same thing. Maximum accuracy is added with the literal translation. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 22:28, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- It's called nothing because you don't need "Case Closed, known in Japan as..." on every single Case Closed article on Wikipedia. You need the official translated title on the main article and that's it. Everywhere else is just "Case Closed".—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 23:34, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- It's not excessive, it's six words after a nihongo, and nothing dissuades this practice. Like Nihongo foot, this has settled down to a community consensus on whether what I'm doing is appropriate or not. Parroting reasons is pointless now, I'll let the community decide. - Delete as hardcoded/redundant. I think the issue of whether to include the literal translation or not should be settled at the main article talk page, rather than here, per AngusWOOF. I may lean towards mentioning "Great" somewhere in the article, as it has a little more significance than mere trivia, but not enough that it can't be left out if it doesn't fit well enough.
