Propose merging Template:Columns-list with Template:Div col.
They do the same thing, but "Div col" has a few additional optional parameters. -- Beland (talk) 23:32, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep one is a template that takes the entire list as a parameter, the other is a set of begin-end templates, where the list is preceded by the start template and succeeded by the end template. There are things that do not play well as template parameters, so these should be kept separate. Using {{!}} everywhere is not convenient, when not necessary. Just make sure the two are compatible in features. {{Div col}} should probably be renamed {{div col start}}, per other paired templates. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 04:14, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • While these do largely overlap in functionality, the subtle differences in syntax and semantics mean that as both are widely used they should both be retained for the sake of ease of use. It wouldn't hurt to try to keep them in sync as much as possible but unfortunately it's not possible to do so automatically. Usually we wait seven days per WP:XFD#Early closure and are still over two days short of that. While WP:SNOW could apply I do see grounds for merging both for what the nominator stated and to focus developer effort on improving one template rather than maintaining feature parity between them and their documentation. --Marc Kupper|talk 14:55, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep though I was on the fence about this one. I saw that {{Div col}} was created on 8 August 2007 and used in 24,175 places and {{Columns-list}} was created on 21 January 2008 and used in 4,597 places. After looking over the manual pages it seems in the long run it would be beneficial to merge these two simply because they are so similar. The thing that tilted it towards keep in my mind is that some editors will prefer the start/end style that Div col uses while others are inclined towards the nested structure used by Columns-list. If Div col were updated to support the nested Columns-list structure a merge would be a no-brainer. --Marc Kupper|talk 15:07, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
