Template:Incomplete edit

The result of the discussion was revert to the version dated 15 November 2011. There was little discussion, and therefore no consensus, regarding the template's original wording ('This article is incomplete. ...'), and so I recommend a new discussion if anyone wishes to pursue its deletion. -- Black Falcon (talk) 07:02, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Incomplete (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Last TFD resulted in a Keep !vote due to WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Somehow, the wording of the template has shifted from "This article is incomplete and may require expansion or cleanup." — which is somewhat vague, but at least accessible — to the vague and useless "Please expand this article." In short, it has become a clone of {{expand}}, which was deleted for the very reason of being vague and overused.

I have no idea why the verbiage was changed. No discussion on the talk page or in the TFD suggested that the template should be changed to THE EXACT SAME WORDING as the now-deleted {{expand}}. What was the point?

Having only recently been reworded, its "reason" paramter is unused in nearly every transclusion. Either delete or revert to the previous, less vague wording — the word "incomplete" at least narrows it down to "is missing information about something", which is more justifiable than just "needs expansion". • Agree with TPH. revert to "incomplete, please expand"
Template_talk:Incomplete#Edit_request_from_.2C_13_November_2011 suggests that it should have been changed "incomplete, please expand" to "incomplete" so as to reduce redundancy (I don't care about this either way). However the actual change made was to throw away "incomplete" and keep "expand". This was simply wrong (and then created duplication with {{expand}}). Andy Dingley (talk) 16:05, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Convert to redirect instead of being an intermediate transclusion, just make it a redirect. 70.49.124.225 (talk) 04:05, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The current template code says:
{{Expand further|1={{{1|article}}}|date={{{date|}}}|reason={{{reason|}}}|further=no|type=content}}
And I said you should convert to redirect instead of intermediate transclusion, so, as the template currently translcudes {{expand further}}, the implication is to redirect it to said template. 70.49.124.225 (talk) 05:14, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is a result of trying to put a quart ({{Incomplete}}) into a pint pot {{Expand further}}. Expand further was a highly specialised template, one might even say niche. Failing to realise that Incomplete should stand on it's own, not surprisingly Expand further got moved to Expand article. A template with this function is needed, and every attempts to remove it, simply wreaks more havok. Lets leave well alone now. Keep unchanged. Rich Farmbrough, 01:42, 1 May 2012 (UTC).[reply]
Do you still agree with this even now that {{Expand}} is finally deleted? What purpose do you think "Expand this article" serves when no elaboration is ever made on what needs expansion? Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:32, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Only a few songs in list have articles which are already transcluded in the template {{Shake It Up}}. The album article itself is a better source for the complete track listing anyway. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:38, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary duplicate of template:Language. This was brought up on the talk page last year, but for some reason the discussion did not continue.  Liam987  16:06, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template:iso2lang is also a duplicate.  Liam987  16:17, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
On Template talk:ISO 639 name. And why is it necessary to have three templates (Template:Language, Template:ISO 639 name, Template:Iso2lang) doing the exact same thing? It was also suggested on one of those talk pages that these templates be reconfigured using the magic word {{#Language}}, similar to the language template on Commons.  Liam987  06:11, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Abort any such discussion before you fix e.g. {{wikisourcelang}} to not use this template. Seeing a link to this TfD from inside that template is most confusing. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:09, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge and redirect. It is not obvious to me which should be the name of the target page, but here is a case for "iso2lang": "Language" is a somewhat unevocative name, and {{Language}} has only 524 transclusions, while "ISO 639 name" is hard to remember, and the template has a paltry 104 transclusions, against 1661 for {{iso2lang}}.  --Lambiam 01:00, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge as nominator  Liam987  16:49, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
