I put down the source for my work. Is there now any reason why it should be deleted?

Created to workaround a Firefox bug that was fixed more than four years ago. It's used all over the place so will need a bot to remove it. ··gracefool 22:21, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Er looks like this breaks {{Tfd links}}...
Now fixed. No comment on the template :) Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:08, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, regretfully. I'm all for simplifying technical complexity, but the mentioned bug exists in Firefox 2, which is still used by Windows 98 users. Looking at this report, it seems that around 1% of Wikipedia page views are from readers using old broken versions of Firefox. We need this template to ensure that their enjoyment of Wikipedia (and particularly our Main Page) isn't substantially lessened. — This, that, and the other (talk) 11:48, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the data more closely, it's about 0.1% of requests from broken versions of Firefox. 0.27% of requests were from Firefox 1 & 2, however Firefox 2 was still getting updates until April 2009 so we can assume most Firefox 2 users are fixed, having got at least one update with the bugfix (ie. any update post-February? 2008). 0.08% of requests are from Firefox 1. Seems low enough to me, especially considering the other far worse problems a Firefox 1 user is likely to be experiencing... ··gracefool 12:37, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's not how Firefox updates worked. Back then, only security updates were released between major versions, so we can assume that all Firefox 2 users have this bug. (Possibly even Firefox 3; I'm not totally sure which version the bug was fixed in.) — This, that, and the other (talk) 01:31, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Keep no need to remove this, and it does have a use for some people, even if it is only a few thousands of users. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:41, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK keep is still reasonable. Template documentation explains the reasoning. Revisit in another 5 years. ··gracefool 04:58, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Urgh. No. If this were for IE5.5 compatibility we'd be far less sanguine. Furthermore, the issue is a relatively minor visual problem (horizontal scrollbars on pages) rather than something which crashes browsers or seriously breaks content, and the majority of transclusions are on talk pages (through a DYK banner) and thus even less likely to cause issues for mere readers. Medal templates mainly created for one-off usages, now unused. They have little purpose that is superior to the generic Template:MedalCompetition. The MedalName template seems never to have been in use and is now somewhat superseded by the placement of medals into infoboxes via Template:Infobox medal templates. "MedalPlayoffs" and "TrueSpirit" are now incorporated into the main Medal template. (FYI I'm also looking to rationalise and merge a number of templates within the main category). SFB 19:24, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Template:MedalTrueSpirit, I updated the template the other day so its more meaningful for Pierre de Coubertin medal winners, but it isn't updating on the Tana Umaga article? Can someone tell me why it's not updating? Thanks, Rudolph89 (talk) 09:09, 4 July 2012 (UTC).[reply]
I have incorporated your good edits into the main {{Medal}} template. Note that the code now reads: {{Medal|TrueSpirit}}, not {{MedalTrueSpirit}} on Umaga's page. I think the idea should be kept, just not the separate templates. SFB 18:52, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing that up, I understand it now. Rudolph89 (talk) 21:48, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Periodic table (full) (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

In content, this template copies {{Periodic table}} exactly, which is already sort of basic periodic table template. As for styles and formats, it does not add much and even confusingly uses navbox colors (while it is not one). Also there is the alternative {{Compact periodic table}}, which could cover a similar need. {{Periodic table (full)}} has only two transclusions, in archives. Together: there is a content alternative, its separate need is not pointed to, and it uses formats wrong. -DePiep (talk) 11:44, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note: could as well be merged into {{Periodic table}}, to the effect that is gets a redirect (but no code insertion). -DePiep (talk) 11:50, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Keep and improve - most of your arguments suggest improvement of the template and not deletion. I created both the full periodic table and the compact one. If nobody wants the full table, then I can understand removing it in favor of the compact one. But since the full template is used widely, I would suggest that you try replacing all of the full templates with the compact template and see if anyone cares first before deleting something that people might find valuable. Remember (talk) 14:04, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Used widely? Maybe there is a misunderstanding. If you look at the WLH special page (link provided above), you see a lot of links indeed. But only two of then are transclusions [1]. That is: the template is actually used on two archive pages, the other links are "mentionings" of the template (like now, it is mentioned here on this page). (Most of these are because those pages have documentation with a template overview). Cold you reconsider? -DePiep (talk) 15:31, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are right. It's not really used at all (I didn't see that it was not being used on article space). Feel free to remove. I thought it might have been of use to someone, but I guess not. Remember (talk) 17:21, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
