File:Sioux Hustler Trail sign.JPG

Would like to see the information on the file, if the deletion was based on sourcing issues we compare the metadata for this image with the other uploads to see if it matches. If they do match, it would be reasonable to say that the photo is the user's own work and can be transferred to Commons. —Jon Kolbert (talk) 15:22, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

  • So if I simply add the name of an article that has been PRODed to this page it will be deleted? We have to provide a rationale to delete or the AfD is rejected by the closing admin. Why doesn't a rationale have to be provided to restore? This needs to change as it's clearly a waste of the project's time to restore a non-notable subject on a whim. Mathletics (educational software)

I just noticed that this was deleted. The deletion rationale was "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion", which is bizarre because I made an effort to make the content neutral and informative. I would like it to be undeleted so I can have a second copyedit for tone and improve it further. :) —Coin945 (talk) 23:56, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

@Coin945: Um... there are exactly zero edits from you in the deleted history of that article. Were you thinking of a different one? In any case, I have looked at the deleted version and while I agree it's promotional, it doesn't seem unambiguously promotional. And the creator is a long-term low-volume editor who has edited a variety of subjects and doesn't appear to have a COI, so I couldn't say for certain that the article was created for publicity purposes. It isn't clear-cut to me. But because it was deleted per WP:G11, the person to ask about restoring it (perhaps to draft space) would be the deleting administrator Dlohcierekim (talk · contribs). ~Anachronist (talk) 01:21, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Rype

The page Rype has been requested for speedy deletion, even though there looks to be sufficient references from credible sources including Forbes, Huffington Post, Inc. Magazine, and more that either mentions or is featuring the brand. The first reason for deletion seems to be because it's not showing importance, but given the media exposure from credible sources in addition to the number of lessons booked on the platform: 150,000, it appears to show credibility. The second reason is because it claims to have unambigious advertising, but there is no direct call to action or references that may appear to be advertising the brand. The language used of the brand is neutral with no direct mentions on why it's better than similar products or even a mention of its main benefits. Therefore, I request that this page be undeleted. —Seankim53 (talk) 23:43, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Note: This page was deleted under speedy deletion criterion G11, indicating an page that was irredeemably promotional or blatant advertising. Note that G11 deletions are more an issue with the tone of the page as opposed to its sources or formatting. As articles deleted under G11 need to be rewritten from scratch, they will not be undeleted as-is here; try contacting the deleting administrator (Ritchie333 (talk · contribs)). Alternatively, you may request the page be restored as a draft or to have the contents of its last known revision emailed to you provided you have email enabled in your account's preferences. A mere "mention" doesn't make a source useful; the source needs to discuss the subject in some depth. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 01:03, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
@Jéské Couriano: Actually, WP:A7 was probably the real reason for deletion. I looked at the deleted version, and it definitely isn't written in a promotional manner. It's rather well written, actually. It seems well sourced at first glance, but the sources don't confer notability on the subject. I would support restoring this to draft space for further improvement and AFC review, if that's OK with Ritchie333 (talk · contribs) who deleted it. ~Anachronist (talk) 01:13, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Restored to Draft:Rype. This does not meet the criteria for A7 whatsoever, so I can only assume I hit the wrong button. If I get time later today, I’ll copyedit the draft and accept it if I can find enough sources to cement notability. Sorry about that. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 07:30, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michelle McNamara, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Coffee (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. ~Anachronist (talk) 19:56, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

File:Sega_Genesis-_Sonic_&_Knuckles_locked_on_to_Sonic3.jpg

This was image was deleted as a derivative work, as it includes video game cartridge artwork. However, the artwork is only a small part of the image; the main purpose of the image is to show how two video game cartridges can be connected. A photo makes this much easier to understand than just explaining via the article prose (Sonic the Hedgehog 3). —Popcornduff (talk) 03:18, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the reply. Re: "nothing has changed, including your argument" - I wasn't part of the original discussion. I'm only recalling the image from memory years ago - is it possible it could be uploaded somewhere else so I can see it? Popcornduff (talk) 06:33, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Well, to be fair, we're all talking about it based on a memory of the image years ago, and we don't seem to have a great knowledge of Wikipedia copyright policy between us. (The editors in the discussion Joe linked, I mean.) From the sounds of it we're better off sourcing or creating a new image with less of the artwork on on display, but it'd be helpful to see the original image so we can see where the limits are. Popcornduff (talk) 11:00, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Game art is allowed under fair use, so there must be some way that the image can be stored under a fair use license. Was the original reason it was deleted because the uploader tried to release the photo as public? - X201 (talk) 12:07, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
It was deleted because people like deleting things, with a single person calling it "derivative work of the game cartridge art" that got it removed. How is it any worse than game articles that have multiple in-game screenshots, on top of the logo? I fully support the undeletion of this photo. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:44, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
We do allow game art under fair use, but only if it meets the non-free content criteria. One of these is that the image must not be replaceable with a free alternative. In the case of game art being used to show the reader what the game art looks like that is not replaceable and it is frequently OK to use it under fair use. This image is being used to demonstrate how two cartridges can be linked together, and you don't need to use the copyrighted portion for that. A picture of two blank cartridges being linked together would serve exactly the same purpose and would be a free image. Hut 8.5 19:09, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Alternatively, one could take a picture of them from behind, which would by and large bypass any concerns about the artwork on the front of the cartridge. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 01:04, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
I think taking the photo from behind might look rather strange. What if we just blurred out the artwork? Would that also be weird? Popcornduff (talk) 02:55, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Photoshopping the artwork out would be fine, I'm sure it could be done in a way which looks normal. Hut 8.5 20:15, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Massacre of Brzostowica Mała

First, my vote count suggest 'no consensus' rather than preference delete (merge 1, Delete 6, Keep 7). Second, deleting admin (User:Sandstein) noted problems with verifiability, which puzzles me. He notes the lack of English language sources, but so what? WP:NOENG and such - an experienced editor such as him should know well no English language sources are necessary for a topic to be notable (and verifiable). His opinion that " controversial issues in WP:AC/DS topic areas do require good sources in more than one (non-English) language in order to allow as many editors as possible, and not just a few or those possibly associated with one side of a conflict, to assess the content" is totally novel and goes against NOENG spirit. We DO NOT need English language sources to estabilish notability or reliability, scholarship in Foo language is totally fine. Finally, he mentions issues with neutrality and the controversy about perpetrators ethnicity. Neutrality is never a factor in AfD when it comes to deciding whether a topic can be deleted or not, we have {{NPOV}} that suffices for content disputes. Further, as I stated on the talk page of the article where we had a relevant discussion (now deleted...), yes, there are no good sources for this controversial description of the massacre perpetrators ethnicity (regardless of language, when I reviewed this article yesterday or so I couldn't find a single source in any language for that claim, as I noted on the talk). I expected within the few days at most we would remove relevant adjectives from the article as unsourced, and should address neutrality concerns. A lot of people participating in this AfD voted 'delete' because they DONTLIKE said claims about ethnicity of perpetrators - an invalid deletion rationale, and anyway, irrelevant concern since this claim is likely not going to survive in the article because I don't think it is verifiable. But to delete the article about a notable event just because of controversy over a single claim is IMHO quite improper. To summarize: there was no consensus for delete, and I don't see any valid reasons for deletion of this notable topic, controversy over a single fact (nationality of the perps) is not relevant to the notability of the main topic (massacre did happen, nobody disputes that). —Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:34, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Not done @Piotrus: Since you're a regular, I won't answer with a boilerplate template reply, but I must ask, why are you posting here? Did you not see the blue box at the top? We don't restore AFD-deleted articles by request on this page; this is for restoring non-controversial deletions. @Anachronist: Thanks. I've done so but it seems DR will not result in a restore (Wikipedia:Deletion_review#Massacre_of_Brzostowica_Mała). In that case, in line with Wikipedia:Userfication ("For help getting a copy of a deleted article, to put into your userspace, see Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles, or post at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion), I'd like to ask for this to be userfied in my userspace, since as at least one other editor suggested in the AfD, parts of this may be eligible for merging to Skidel revolt. Won't do you much good. The entire contents of the article are the words to the song, which can be found easily enough by searching for "Loch Tay Boat Song lyrics". If you're curious about the phrase "nighean ruadh", it means "red-haired little girl" according to one source. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 19:39, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Deletion "edit conflicted" with my removal of the speedy tag. This is good content, available under an irrevocable open licence, and was only speedy deleted because of this dispute. Prix Maurice Ballot

Dear Randykitty, In response to your deletion of the new page Prix Maurice Ballot given by the French Astronomical Society, I would like to better understand your position relative to similar long-established content on Wikipedia.

The wiki page for the American Astronomical Society -- which is a peer of the French Astronomical Society-- lists 20 of its awards, virtually all of which have their own dedicated pages on wiki. Many of those are minor awards, for example the Chambliss Amateur Achievement Award (page created 2007), which is given "for an achievement in astronomical research made by an amateur astronomer resident in North America." This is virtually identical to the objective of the Prix Maurice Ballot which is "recognition of authors of works of the Society's observatory" (i.e. amateur or professional).

Similarly, the wiki page for the Astronomical Society of the Pacific -- another peer of the French society -- has a page for their "Amateur Achievement Award of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific" (page created 2006), which is given for "significant contributions to astronomy or amateur astronomy by those not employed in the field of astronomy in a professional capacity." Again, virtually identical to the French society's prize.

The type of organisations, the nature of the three awards, the "noteworthiness", and the level of references provided on all three wiki page are virtually identical, yet the French award was deleted and the others remain. There are many other such wiki pages for awards offered by other astronomical organisations outside of France, which I would be pleased to share with you. Please note that besides the award winners themselves, it is mostly the sponsoring astronomical organisations that document/write about their own awards.

In the above context, I respectfully request you to reconsider the deletion of the Prix Maurice Ballot page. Thanks for your consideration of this request —Akrokerama (talk) 11:38, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for informing me of this status. The page is in limbo since the editor simply replaced my draft with a redirect code (a de facto deletion without explanation other than un-noteworthiness which I have addressed above). Please guide me as to how I can resolve this issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akrokerama (talkcontribs) 21:14, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

You can undo the change to a redirect. You can discuss this with the person who did it. You could open a discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Awards (since I do not think the talk page of the redirect will get much attention). If you do undo the change, please gather more independent references that show notability. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:36, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

John North (Christian author and speaker)

John North is the author of numerous books and resources, speaks at many conferences in Australia and elsewhere, has a regular morning radio spot on Hope 103.2FM in Sydney, and is the National Director of Ambassadors for Christ International Australia. His wikipedia page is used by people to find out about him prior to hearing him speak or buying a book. A quick search of the http://hope1032.com.au radio station website, plus the afci.com.au website and a google search of EvangelismSHIFT will show that these things are so. Rhyners Record Shop

I will like to contest this deletion notice I got for that article because I created that page and can you please add secondary sources to that article on wikipedia to improve the article of Rhyners Record Shop which is a music store located in Trfinidad and Tobago on Wikipedia.I apoligised for the inconvience caused. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki10 (talkcontribs) 18:11, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Note: The page isn't deleted, therefore there's no reason to undelete it. Please follow the instructions on the deletion tag in order to contest (if a speedy deletion or prod/stickyprod) or argue against (if a deletion debate) deletion. Be aware that it will very likely be sent to WP:Articles for deletion or moved to draft space if the PROD is contested; it's not ready for article space yet. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 20:31, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

I've removed the stickyprod as inappropriate; that being said the article is a curriculum vitae and should be rewritten, and soon, or it will likely go to AfD. I hadn't worked on the draft article for 6 months so it was deleted. I'm now ready to amend it and resubmit for consideration —Miniwik (talk) 12:52, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

@Miniwik: Restored, but.... This is the second time we've been requested to restore it. This was undeleted over six months ago with a pledge that it would be worked on, but few edits were made to improve the entry for resubmission (which was declined). Articles for creation is not an indefinite hosting service for material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia's article mainspace. Please get the article into shape so that it is accepted, or let it go and it will be deleted again in six months... and likely won't be restored a third time. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:08, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

The series (also known as Jikkyou) was a notable series released in Japan. There are several english articles that exist for the game, such as the ones published by IGN, as seen here. There are also several articles found in the Japanese Wikipedia Page such as this article, which discusses the series' anniversary. —Yoshiman6464 ♫🥚 03:45, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
