  • Normally we restore PRODs, but it was proposed for deletion with the rationale "Concerns with notability, and reads like an autobiography and/or advert." I'm also concerned that this is an autobiography, meaning that it was something that you wrote about yourself. Wikipedia strongly discourages people writing about themselves, as it's so easy to make something promotional or to see notability where there might not be any. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:08, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
  • I also note that there seems to be quite a few accounts associated with this person/page and it looks like they might all be run by the same person. I'm going to open a SPI on this. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:10, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
  •   Not done I didn't open the SPI since the other accounts were all stale, so I blocked one account that was definitely tied to this account and put a template on one that looks like it might be related, but there's not enough to entirely say that it's a sockpuppet. Oh No Oh My

This appears to have been deleted based on an expired PROD based on alleged Notability concerns. In fact, the band meets WP:NMUSIC requirements 1, 4, and 10. The band's albums were reviewed by several music sites including Pitchfork and the AV Club, has toured nationally and internationally (with non-trivial coverage), and had a song featured in the TV series "Weeds". Some of the band's album pages still exist (with references). -—Torc. (Talk.) 12:08, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

California Review

As you can see in the discussion there were no grounds for deletion of the wikipedia article; the discussion was in the favor of keeping the page. Additionally, the page did not violate any wikipedia standards following the proposal of deletion. The author of the deletion proposal has pushed forward over the years several times in attempts to delete the article. The collegiate newspaper has a notable history and has long been in the public arena in the Southern California area as seen in the sources for the page from NBC News, the ACLU, FIRE, San Diego Tribune, National Review, interviewed the likes of Milton Friedman, Jack Kemp, Pete Wilson, Ron Paul and many more. -Ptariche (talk) 04:49, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

  •   Not done - this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/California Review (2nd nomination), it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Juliancolton (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:54, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
  • Before I created this page today it was already deleted. I checked the reasons for deletion and carefully wrote a short stub with infobox etc. I never wrote it as any kind of promotion or ad.
  • Some more references could be added, I agree. I was in the process to obtain more and add them.
  • Now I see that User:Ad Orientem has deleted it without caring to raise a discussion in the talk page of the article or with me (writer). I find his actions to be non democratic and autocratic. I propose to put an enquiry on him/her.
  • Kindly get the deletion reverted. I invite any party who is against creation of this article to discuss on the article talk page.

  • Metronews: It looks like you made a request back in December 2014 and it was restored by myself, but no edits were made. Looking at your username, I'm mildly concerned that it poses an issue since it implies that it is tied to the topic (San Jose Inside), a news website. You've been editing since 2008 and on various different topics, but I would be somewhat remiss if I didn't mention that. If you're related to any of the news websites/outlets you do have to mention this ala WP:COI, but if you're not it might not be a bad idea to put a little disclaimer somewhere, yadda yadda. Gammadyne Mailer

An admin had deleted the article, then restored it so that it could be reworked and debated. The article was largely rewritten to resolve some issues. No one ever argued that it should be deleted on the talk page. It was soon after deleted by another admin. This article is notable enough to be referenced by two other articles, and should therefore be restored. At the very least, it needs to go through a proper debate process. -Grozo (talk) 00:23, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

Participant evolution

Please restore to draft space. -Fixuture (talk) 01:19, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

  • @Fixuture: It was deleted at AfD, so you'd have to ask Kudpung if he is willing to restore it to the draftspace or is OK with someone else doing this. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:05, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
    • @Tokyogirl79: Why wouldn't he? Are the rules for undeletion different when an article got deleted at AfD? Btw while I don't think the deletion discussion found even rough consensus for a delete I'm not intending to restore it to mainspace as a stand-alone article. @Kudpung: Are you willing to? --Fixuture (talk) 13:21, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
The consensus was clearly and unambiguously for delete. I have restored the article to Draft:Participant evolution. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 17:46, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
  • Fixuture Rules are different for AfDs when it comes to REFUND. The only time we can restore an AfD'd article is when the article was deleted via a WP:SOFTDELETE - which would have to be marked by the closing admin as a soft delete. Any other type of close marks it as something that cannot be restored through REFUND, as AfD'd articles can really only be restored via two avenues: the deleting admin can restore it (or give someone else permission to restore it) or it can be restored by making a petition to WP:DRV. The only catch with DRV is that you can only do this if the deleting admin refuses to restore the material. In other words, AfDs cannot be restored via REFUND per the below statement:
this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Participant evolution, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Kudpung (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review.
I'm using the above article as the example for this. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:26, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
@Tokyogirl79: Thanks for your explanations. First of all I think all articles (with exceptions) should be draftified or moved to userspace instead of getting outright deleted per default or as an option for the article creator (who needs to be made aware of this option) or at the request of other participants. Then this article just says "Note that requests for undeletion are not a replacement for deletion review" - but I do not wish to have the deletion reviewed as I don't intend to restore the article - and I did not know about this - so what you just told me here should probably be noted in a short (very short) manner at the top of the page.
However, instead of that the undeletion process should probably be improved in that requests for undeletion that request the undeletion of a page that got "hard deleted" by an admin notify said admin automatically (or unpreferably semi-automatically by guiding the requesteer to find out the name of the admin a ping him in the request or so) and there should be easy-to-choose options to have it restored to draft or userspace. It would probably need a wizard like the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request one for this.
--Fixuture (talk) 16:44, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
  • It's discussed here somewhat with this section:
This means that content deleted after discussion—at articles for deletion, categories for discussion, or miscellany for deletion among other deletion processes—may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process.
However there has occasionally been some talk over that since it's a little vague. It would probably be better if it was more clear that it would only be restored in cases where there was no discussion at AfD (meaning no discussion for deletion other than the nominator), it was marked as a soft delete, and/or the admin clearly marks that restoration/userfication is an option. I don't know that automatic userfication/draftifying would really become a standard option for AfDs, given that there are so many articles that are so unsuitable for Wikipedia and in some cases would be unlikely to be properly maintained or edited. You could suggest it at the AfD talk page, though. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:45, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

I plan on editing further -HodgeBrad (talk) 02:13, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

  • HodgeBrad: You requested that this be restored in March 2016 and made no edits to the page, so it was deleted as a stale draft. You made a new request for restoration back in September, where I asked for some sort of assurance that the page would be edited, however you never responded to that. This will not be restored unless you can give us some sort of very good assurance that it would not be abandoned again. Wikipedia is not a place to indefinitely host content. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:47, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
  • FWIW, I do think that the book would pass notability guidelines - especially given the criticism the work has received in places like this one, but we just need to make sure that this won't just become an abandoned draft. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:51, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

No, because it was both blatant advertising and overall misuse of Wikipedia in our policies. First, it would help to actually say if there's major substantial news (and not PR, please) about this subject, and if not, then it's not currently notable for us. Wikipedia is not a PR business webhost. SwisterTwister talk 22:29, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
@SwisterTwister Understood. Only requesting userfication (sp?) to retrieve for working on it or else otherwise altering etc. to meet Wikipedia standards in the future, if at all possible. Article was PRODed for being non-notable and about a short-lived project only. The term, however, is referred to in enough places (including in WP) to deserve some coverage when people run into it. So we need either an article about it at its original place or a redirect to another suitable place. I ask for undeletion so that I can investigate if some or all of the original contents can be used for this. In either case, it is better to do this "on top" of the original article instead of creating a new one, also to preserve the original edit history. • I can't see where there was any article by this name in the mainspace or draftspace. A search on the speedy deletion wikia and at AfD brought up nothing. We'd need a link in order to be able to tell you whether or not REFUND can help you with this. Something else to take into consideration is that we cannot restore articles deleted on other language Wikipedias, so if the page was created elsewhere then we cannot restore those articles. Factom

My Response ---

I want this article to be undeleted bcoz of the reasons stated below.

The article was deleted due to copyright infrigement of two links

1. https://news.bitcoin.com/bill-melinda-gates-awards-grant-factom/

I dont know why the above link has been included in copyright infrigement. The link leads to a Site which is a News Site for Crypto related articles. And The Link clearly Mentions that a grant has been Given to Factom coompany which the wiki page belonged to. So this indeed is not a copyright violation.

2. https://www.dhs.gov/science-and-technology/news/2016/06/17/st-awards-199k-austin-based-factom-inc-iot-systems-security

This Link also leads to a Government website which provided a grant to the Factom Company which the wiki page belonged to.

So Copyright Violation on this link is also a flase Statement. You can personally check the Links and decide if it has some copyrighted Content.

Hence i request you to please Undelete the Page as It complies all the rules of Wikipedia. The copyright infrigement are just false Statements.

Regards, Jayesh. -Jay8291 (talk) 09:40, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

MODERATORS RESPONSE START

That is not how copyright works. At all. We do not allow users to copy-paste content wholesale from websites, full stop. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 11:06, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Actually www.dhs.gov is public domain, so copying is permitted on Wikipedia from this site. However credit is required to avoid the false impression of who wrote it. But you should ask the administrator that deleted it. Are you suggesting that there was no copying from the Bill and Melinda Gates story? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:45, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

MODERATROS RESPONSE END

My RESPONSE-----

Well Nothing was Copied from any Articles. Only the link was posted in Reference Header for reference to the Funding received from the companies. Like Factom received received Funding from DHS so an Link was posted just for Reference. Same with Bill & Melinda Gates Article. How can just posting a Link for Reference became a Copyright Infrigement ??-Jay8291 (talk)

  •   Not done We cannot restore copyright violations via REFUND. A quick search showed that the article had content copied from here, here, here, and here, and likely from other places. Now even if this wasn't a copyright violation the page was still very, very unambiguously promotional, to the point where it would be valid for speedy deletion under criteria WP:G11.
Now something else to take into consideration - even if the company has been given permission to use copyrighted materials that permission is not automatically extended to Wikipedia. In order for any content to be used the copyright holder would have to file a ticket that essentially gives up the material as fair use. I have to assume that in the case of the news article the company does not own the article outright (as the word grant gives off the permission that Factom can use the material for marketing purposes but does not own the material) and that the copyright belongs to the respective news website, who would have to file the ticket themselves - and most places are unlikely to want to do this. Even if they were willing, the content would still have to be re-written in order to be neutral.
This brings up a few new points. First off, Factom does not own the article on Wikipedia. (WP:OWNERSHIP) It isn't like a company website Linkedin or other database type sites where a company has complete creative control over the page and shouldn't be considered an extension of the company website. This brings up the final point - have you disclosed your conflict of interest? I haven't checked elsewhere just yet, but it seems obvious that you are a marketing person that has been asked to create the page. You can edit with a COI, but you must be transparent about this and you must follow Wikipedia's guidelines to a T. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 07:13, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
