Wikipedia in different languages

Samsung S5 charging port cover

Samsung S5, exactly two years old. Since about a year after I bought the phone new, it has been giving an "open cover" warning whenever I turn it on, despite the cover being firmly shut. To avoid the annoying warnings, I want to defeat the detection system, and need to know how it works. I've inspected the port and cover closely with a magnifying glass and can see no damage or wear, nor can I see any kind of switch. Alternatively, anyone know how to remove the app that detects that the cover is open? Akld guy (talk) 19:32, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

The charging port warning happens every time you plug and unplug the phone. How easy it is to disable the warnings depends on which version of the phone you have. I'm going to guess you've got the AT&T/T-Mobile version or else you probably would have figured this out already. Unfortunately, it looks like you've got to root the phone to disable it! (Sorry to be the bearer of annoying news.)

On the other hand the battery cover warning should only happen when you reboot the phone, or if you're using it with the battery cover off. (I don't know how it knows the battery cover is off, but I suspect it has to do with those five tiny metal pins in the upper right of the cover.)

Thank you for those links! The problem has nothing to do with the battery cover (the back cover). It's all about the charging cover at the bottom of the phone. It seems from the links that there's nothing wrong with my phone and the default behaviour is the warning after power up even if the cover has been firmly closed. I'm in a country where the phone is behaving like the AT&T models, unlike the other providers mentioned in the links which have a "don't show this message again" button. So I don't have the option of clicking it off permanently. The S5 is several years old and I'm not counting on a software update fix, so I guess I'll just have to put up with it or buy a later model (Samsung's rationale for not fixing it, I suppose).
