May 9 edit

top 3 GDP contributors edit

Are there any maps (not diagrams) that show the top 3 sources of revenue for each country? 92.25.90.163 (talk) 00:09, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A map would be problematic because of tiny nations, packed together, (such as the Balkans) leaving little room to fit the words. You would need many maps, at different scales. StuRat (talk) 13:31, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's a singularly helpful and informative response. --jpgordon::==( o ) 16:09, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Stu's right here, the OP has asked for a very specific set of variables in an inconvenient format with a very uneven distribution, and the top three (why not one, or five) requirement is pretty arbitrary. If we knew the purpose for which the map was wanted other suggestions might be possible. μηδείς (talk) 17:49, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't help that the most profitable corporations are mostly the multinational sort. No borders for those. Even "mere" national corporations have offices and plants spread around the country. InedibleHulk (talk) 18:00, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(OP here) To make it easier for you guys, you can bring the closest thing to what I have requested even if it ends up being a diagram rather than a map. Its out of pure curiosity for what each nation produces. I want it in image format because it becomes easier to visualize. Nothing else. 78.146.105.145 (talk) 19:17, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The closest thing I can think of are natural resource maps (I linked some, but MapsOfWorld.com is blacklisted). They're what a nation produces, but nowhere near where the money goes. If you can find out which countries are best exploiting the priciest resources, you can start labeling certain oilfields or oceans (or whatever) accordingly, but the map's going to be hard to understand for most of each country's Top Three being outside its borders. And I don't know how you'd even start to consider top industries like shipping, banking or Googling. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:44, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This looks cool, but I'm not sure where or when the data are from. And again, it really doesn't answer your very hard question. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:48, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

One other problem with the question is the reference to GDP and “sources of revenue.” This might be appropriate for a government or current account, but GDP is a value-added measure. Perhaps the OP is thinking of "contributions to growth"? DOR (HK) (talk) 07:29, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Link to Club Carlson document edit

I was reading this blogpost, which mentions a secret PDF file located at this link, but this requires login. There used to be a public link to that PDF file, so perhaps someone has uploaded it somewhere. Count Iblis (talk) 20:39, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WP:REX is the best place to ask for help accessing hard-to-access sources. --Jayron32 02:00, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll ask there. Count Iblis (talk) 18:30, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
