edit

can you find this image at commons?

edit

This image (a map of the you-plural forms of the US) is credited to wikimedia commons. Can anyone find it there? Thanks. μηδείς (talk) 20:05, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Try [1] or File:Yall US Map.svg. I found it via Google Images, and the mentalfloss page had the link back to Commons. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:21, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The first thing I looked for was a link at the mentalfloss page, but I had trouble loading the page itself, and the image was partially cut off, so I am going to blame browser compatibility. (I also did a reverse search on the image, and it linked me to our article on corporal punishment of children in the US!) μηδείς (talk) 00:06, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe in corporal punishment. Punishment should either be private or general. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:04, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There may be a colonel of truth in that. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 01:51, 22 October 2013 (UTC) [reply]
I can't top that! ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 01:56, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nice map but it leaves out the most unique second person plural of Yinz. Drawing the lines according to state boundaries is pretty misleading, the people in Knoxville speak like the people in Memphis? Those in Asheville like those in Wilmington? Pittsburgh like those in Philadelphia? A map following county lines may be much more accurate, there is a wide swath of at least one term missing from that representation. Could even call it Major Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 07:31, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the map is pretty rough, and I think the key for Rhode Island is meant as a joke. But Arika Okrent thought it helpful enough to use on her blog. In this case its for an editor from overseas, in order to give a general idea. μηδείς (talk) 16:43, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
See, I would have thought RI was accurate, I can be so naive sometimes! Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 04:47, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have often heard "you all" in the Midwest, as opposed to "y'all" which is used either by transplanted southerners or as a joke. Both are effectively plurals, i.e. a collection of individual yous (more than one "you", not "youse"). ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 08:09, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
