April 15
editCan anyone tell me what time of day this fight would have been broadcast in the UK in 1985? I suppose we ought to assume it was shown live. I dimly recall it being early evening, say 8pm UK time, but would find it useful to have clarification, preferably with a reference. Thanks. --Dweller (talk) 12:55, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm getting my DST dates mixed up but even so that would have made the fight 7 to 8 hours earlier in the day. It's unusual for such major fights to be scheduled for so early in the day. - Well I have been unable to find a source for the start time of the fight in Las Vegas but it was definitely fought at night as can be seen in the pic and video here. That would be early (very) morning in the UK which means a night showing would have been a tape delay airing. Interesting that it was a Monday - I doubt that would happen today as promoters would want to maximize a viewing (pay-per-view or otherwise) audience. MarnetteD|Talk 15:02, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, many major sporting events happen on Mondays because young people are home on Monday nights; the target demographic for these events tends to be out and doing stuff on the Weekends, TV viewership goes down Friday-Saturday because of this. See here. If you want to maximize your viewership, the two best nights to show a sporting event are Sunday night and Monday night. Which explains events like the Super Bowl (Sunday Night), the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship (always on a Monday night). --Jayron32 15:59, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- I take your points J, although I would note that the P-M fight is on a Saturday and college football gets huge ratings on Saturdays as well. Also, the Final Four semis on Sat occasionally get higher rating than Championship Monday. The H-H article is sadly undersourced. Do you remember whether that fight was Pay-per-view or a cable (HBO maybe) broadcast? I remember watching it but I can't remember how it was shown. To my mind (though I could be wrong) the nature of PPV has changed over the years. Jeepers I just twigged to the fact that Apr 15 is tax day in the US as well. - College football games are on Saturdays because people are more likely to go out of the house to watch games rather than sit in and watch TV. College football stadiums are the largest in America for this reason. College football gets MUCH more in-person watching than NFL football, especially when averaged over the 60+ DI FBS games that happen every week. Notably, the games everyone expects to watch on TV, like the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship is played on a Monday. --Jayron32 16:26, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

The internet is amazing. So's my memory, it seems. I remembered it was on ITV and incredibly found an archive of old copies of TV Times. Which led to this. The fight was shown at 8pm on 16 April. Thanks everyone. --Dweller (talk) 16:30, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

editI have some troubles with running Shazam, could someone identify this song from 0:28 onwards? Couldn't find by lyrics, Audiotag doesn't recognize, while Watzatsong.com is temporarily out of service. The end says "music by Dead Sexy", but it didn't help. Many thanks.
