editCanadian curling - numbers on sweaters
editHi - after trying to find it on your site, sorry, couldn't - can you explain why Canadian curlers now have numbers on the back of their 'sweaters'? This is a relatively new thing, last few years, and we can't find out why. Thanks very much 70.77.140.58 (talk) 02:55, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Likely to make it easier for fans watching to identify the various athletes. After all, that's the only reason players in other sports do so. --Jayron32 03:58, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- The widespread adoption of numbered jerseys seems to have been driven by the requirement that all teams participating in Capital One Grand Slam of Curling bonspiels wear numbered jerseys. This rule was instituted, apparently at the behest of Capital One, in the 2010/11 season: [1]. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 04:39, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Bradford City
editIf Bradford City win the League Cup here in a month, does that mean they will be eligible for a Europa League spot next season? Or does that only apply to Premier League clubs?Nicholasprado (talk) 05:41, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think they will be eligible, yes. From Europa League#Qualification: "A few countries have secondary cup competitions but the only countries which currently grant a UEFA Europa League place to their secondary cup winners are England and France." --Viennese Waltz 08:27, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- They are most definately eligible yes - Birmingham City played in the same competition after winning the League Cup, despite being in the Championship at the time. gazhiley 08:55, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Mind you, they aren't going to win...... Come on you Jacks! gazhiley 08:57, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- The only difficulty they could have is if Valley Parade does not meet the requirements of a Eurpoa League stadium. Stadia must be up to UEFA Category 4 standard to be used in the main competition. Of course, if the stadium isn't up to scratch, Bradford wouldn't be prevented from competing, they'd just have to find an alternative venue: Elland Road would probably do fine. I can't find a definitive answer which says what category Valley Parade falls in to, but this suggests they should be ok. - Cucumber Mike (talk) 12:20, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- It would be quite cool to see a League Two side playing European football next season. Little clubs in the US can't do things like that! Thanks anyways guys Nicholasprado (talk) 07:41, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Scottish regiment being piped into battle
editI am looking for any war film that includes a scene of a Scottish regiment advancing with bagpipes playing. Can anyone help please? Gurumaister (talk) 20:37, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not sure if it's specifically Scottish troops, but in The Longest Day Lord Lovat's (Peter Lawford's) unit is accompanied by a piper who plays, for instance, when when they come to the relief of the troops on Pegasus Bridge. If you're looking for guys in kilts and such, though, that's not it. Deor (talk) 21:36, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- (ec) Pick your war - The Longest Day [2], The Bridge On the River Kwai, A Bridge Too Far, for WWII among others. The Buccaneer for the War of 1812, Unconquered and The Light in the Forest for the French and Indian War, Waterloo, The Charge of the Light Brigade, Gunga Din, multiple versions of Rob Roy. See also [3] Rmhermen (talk) 21:40, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Och mon, ye can go to the movies (and TV shows) to the sound of bagpipes to your heart's content. From that list, I see The Drum to go along with Gunga's din, Unconquered, Waterloo, and maybe The Young Lions (the description's a bit unclear). Clarityfiend (talk) 02:25, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks to all for your help. That is a plethora of films for me to collect and pick from. Many thanks! Gurumaister (talk) 10:22, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
