March 5 edit

Fascinating edit

There appears to be a disruption in the space-time continuum. Clarityfiend (talk) 03:31, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean the section headers? Its a known bug in Scsbot RudolfRed (talk) 03:35, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have known for a while the country wont hold you for loooong

(Removed song lyrics as potential copyright violation; please see WP:SONGLYRICS for more information)

This is transcribed by ear from the song as found on Spotify. It appears to be this version, as available from Amazon. It's transcribed as accurately as possible, although I wasn't sure of the word courtswing - I've never heard of such a thing and Googling it didn't help, but I'm sure that's what he sings. - Cucumber Mike (talk) 15:43, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately listing full song lyrics here has a couple of problems. First, if you're picking it up by ear, that could be called original research and thus may not be accurate. Second, if you happen to be right, publishing said lyrics without critical commentary on them could be a copyright violation. My best suggestion is to keep trying Bing and Google. Someone, somewhere has it. --McDoobAU93 16:07, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Bummer. Yes, you're quite right. Sorry, I wasn't thinking of copyright. Unfortunately, though my own searches also gave nothing. I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of listening to the damn thing if they had! - Cucumber Mike (talk) 16:11, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
@Cucumber cheers mate... Thanx to wikipedia's history feature :D 49.249.248.43 (talk) 10:51, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1970s Woody Allen film edit

  Resolved

I recall once having seen a Woody Allen film back in the 1970s where he's disrobing to the music of Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries. Does anyone happen to know the name of the film? Thank you.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:57, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the soundtrack listings on IMDB for each of Woody Allen's films in the 70s and early 80s and did not find anything. I also searched for "Valkyries" used in any soundtrack and did not see an Allen film in the results. Of course IMDB is a spotty reference at best. There are some films that list several classical titles, so perhaps you are remembering one of those? --LarryMac | Talk 16:50, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I had the same result as LarryMac, but I did find that music from Wagner's The Flying Dutchman opera was used in Allen's Manhattan Murder Mystery. - JuneGloom Talk 17:38, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible the music being played was actually Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. I recall seeing the film in about 1974.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 07:10, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The 1812 Overture is used in Bananas when Mellish and the attractive revolutionary woman are disrobing after their "sexy eating" scene. Deor (talk) 12:07, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's it! Thanks a milion, Deor. For years, I've ben trying to recall that film as the last time I saw it was when I was a teenager in 1974. I also wish to thank everybody who took the time to respond to my question. Cheers!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 13:22, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's actually a 1971 film, but in those days, before home video, they used to re-release films in the theater from time to time. So it's entirely possible you saw it in a theater in 1974. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:58, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sound on Palladia edit

Much of the time when I watch Palladia on my cable TV, the sound sounds like it is from a 5.1 source, but the rear channels are the ones I hear and the front channels are missing. For instance, you can't hear some voices and instruments at all. And the audience noise is often louder than what you do hear of the performace, and the performance has a lot of echo. Is this possible? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 23:37, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I've seen TV shows and movies on TV where they seemed to have messed up the tracks. I seem to recall hearing environmental sounds, like footsteps, but no voices, for example. I also heard an interesting news show where the stage manager's instructions were being broadcast: "now switch to camera 3 and I need you to stretch for 30 more seconds". StuRat (talk) 03:20, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Who is at fault - Palladia or the cable TV company? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 03:24, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Most likely it's a communication issue. That is, Palladia provided all the tracks, but didn't document what tracks contain what, and the cable company just assumed it's like other programs, so broadcasted the same tracks they normally do. The interesting part is that nobody seems to actually watch the programs they broadcast, to verify that everything is OK. I've seen such problems go unresolved for the entire program, as a result, with no "We are experiencing technical difficulties" crawler. StuRat (talk) 03:36, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Earlier today I tried to find a way to contact Palladia, but I failed. If I contact the cable company, they probably won't understand what I'm talking about. Whenever I call hem about a problem, they deny that it is on their end and want to send a truck to my house. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 04:01, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a friend or relative with the same cable company ? If they are having the same problem, this info might make the cable company believe the problem is at their end. Incidentally, regardless of if Palladia did anything wrong, it's the cable company's responsibility to fix it, even if this means contacting Palladia to get them to change something at their end. StuRat (talk) 04:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I do. I'm not sure they get Palladia, but I can check. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 04:39, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
