Robert De Niro starred in (a) movie(s) related to war. What are they/is it?68.148.164.166 (talk) 10:54, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have an answer but all the movies that I recognised on Robert De Niro filmography#Actor and Director weren't directly related to war. There are some relevant documentaries mentioned under "Documentaries" in that article. Zain Ebrahim (talk) 11:07, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most famously, The Deer Hunter. --Richardrj talk email 11:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mario kart wii

edit

In Mario Kart Wii I have been trying to get unlock the star cup. Every site I have looked at says you need to get at least third place in the mushroom cup and the flower cup to get it. I did that (I got secound and first to be exact) and I still didn't get the star cup. I can't think what I did wrong, I played through both cups with the same character (baby mario) and I did them both without turning the wii off after beating a course. Can someone please tell me what I was doing wrong? Does it have to be on a certain level (I was a 100cc at the time)?--76.176.124.169 (talk) 16:25, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wimbledon

edit

Has any doubles team ever won the doubles tournament and played each other in the singles final as the Williams sisters did in the 2002 Wimbledon Championships and possibly again this year? Does anyone know off-hand? Thanks, Zain Ebrahim (talk) 18:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible it happened in the old days - most modern singles players won't play doubles as it tires them out in chase of a title no one cares about. -mattbuck (Talk) 19:47, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The last time was 51 years ago, in 1957, when Althea Gibson and Darlene Hard partnered in the doubles final, then played against each other in the singles final. Gibson won both matches. -- JackofOz (talk) 22:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Very interesting. I see that Gibson won both again in '58 and also in France in '56 where she played against Hard in the doubles final. Thanks, Zain Ebrahim (talk) 00:15, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Music accompanied by cannon?

edit

Is there any music besides the 1812 Overture that is routinely and deliberately accompanied by cannon fire?

Atlant (talk) 20:48, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cannon#Music mentions only the 1812 and a song by AC/DC by name, but refers to "grand, theatrical pieces", which implies there are more. -- JackofOz (talk) 22:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Beethoven's Wellington's Victory uses percussion instruments to simulate the sound of musketry, but not actual firearms. -- JackofOz (talk) 22:38, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Giuseppe Sarti was supposedly the first composer to orchestrate real cannons in his work, sacred work no less, during his stay in St. Petersburg. His Te Deum celebrates the Russian victory at Ochakov (1789) with the firing of a real cannon. ---Sluzzelin talk 06:50, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I saw them wheeling out a cannon during a concert, I'd be mortarfied. :-) StuRat (talk) 02:00, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Someone ought to bore down on you for that breech of decorum! You'd better muzzle it, bub!
