Tiscali.co.uk and Apple Mac's Safari browser

edit

Has any one had, and overcome problems with Tiscali's upgraded Mail system. If so how did you do it please?--88.109.177.178 06:43, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Give Firefox a go! --saxsux 11:26, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, tried this and though Firefox says it is Mac friendly it downloads an exe file which is only for PC's ! Any ideas as to why please?--88.109.177.178 06:36, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps there's some selective discrimination going on towards congenitally disruptive Wikipedia editors. —Steve Summit (talk) 15:32, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Use Case Analysis

edit

i am a system analyst and recently asked a question which was mistaken for a homework.but in real sense i want to install a library system to automate its systems.now i was asking for assistance in putting up a set of use cases for this library system with the following 'actors'-Borrower, Checkout Clerk, Librarian & Accounting Sytem

The Use case article has several links at the bottom, one of which is a tutorial. What problems are you having in describing the use cases? -- JSBillings 12:47, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the boot loader

edit

I have Windows XP and Read Hat Linux on my computer. When my computer is switched on, I get the grub boot loader screen. Now the problem is that the default option is to load Linux. I want to change this to Windows. Also, Windows is named as "DOS" in the OS options list. I'd like to correct that as well. Please guide me if someone knows how. Thanks!--Seraphiel 09:46, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need to go into Linux, do su; nano /boot/grub/menu.st (or use any GUI text editor such as gedit), and scroll down to find something like "title DOS", change the DOS part, and move it, along with the other lines in that "block" above any other title entries (or change the default number to that number, either way). Be sure to back it up before hand though, as it is potentially dangerous. --antilivedT | C | G 10:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that the numbering of boot entries starts at zero. You can also use the savedefault option in the boot entry, and configure the default to choose the last picked OS, that way it always reboots into the OS you last chose. -- JSBillings 11:32, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Even easier than moving sections; just change the default 0 line to the number of the section (zero-based, as most things in computing are). --cesarb 23:28, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all! It now works just as I wanted! One more question, though. I have a Windows Vista CD with me. I'd like to install that as a third OS. I have PartitionMagic 8 on my Windows XP partition. How can I go about doing this without messing up the present configuration?--Seraphiel 14:38, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest you to use a Linux LiveCD such as Knoppix or Ubuntu (Linux distribution) and resize the partitions using gparted or qtparted. Then once your third OS is installed, boot back into the LiveCD and do a grub-install hd0 (change hd0 if needed) to install GRUB back, which will automatically detect the three OSes and create a boot menu. --antilivedT | C | G 06:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like it's got every chance that I'll screw up the whole thing and be left with a computer that cant run even a single OS. I guess I'll satisfy myself with just 2 OSes. Thanks anyway. --Seraphiel 06:02, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SVG Rendering

edit

I've uploaded this svg, but is doesn't seem to render right. The png version can be seen here. What gives? I used illustrator to make it. These were my settings: DTD=Svg 1.0, Fonts type=SVG, subsetting=none, Images=Embed, CSS properties=Presentation Attributes, Decimal places=3, Unicode UTF-8, and no additional options ticked (like Output fewer tspan elements=No (unticked), etc.) So what have I done wrong? --Cody.Pope 12:30, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Try changing the fonts to ones supported by the SVG rendering engine mediawiki uses - those currently available are listed at m:SVG fonts. That's probably not the only fix necessary (text rendering in general seems to be the biggest source of differences between SVG renderers) but that'll certainly help. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 12:48, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be sure, is Hlv the same as Helvetica? That was the font originally used. --Cody.Pope 13:09, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's a font issue. Note that the font names have to match for it to work right — Hlv is probably the same as Helvetica but if the name is different the SVG renderer won't know. "Geneva" is usually a pretty safe one to go with. And you didn't, but I find yellow-on-gray to be pretty painful in terms of color schemes. Edward Tufte would weep! --24.147.86.187 13:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, thanks for the aesthetic advice, you can blame Microsoft Excel though, I'll change it before I upload with the new fonts. --Cody.Pope 14:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks fine here (firefox on Mac)--67.181.167.227 13:25, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Odd, I'm using a Firefox on a Mac too. Aren't the letters in the title overlapping? --Cody.Pope 14:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NOTE I'm presently modify the SVG, so the render will be changing. Thanks for all the help. --Cody.Pope 14:56, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should be good now. Tell me if you guys are getting an errors. Thanks again. --Cody.Pope 16:12, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ipod Sync Issues?

edit

Whenever I try to sync my Ipod (5th Gen Nano) with music downloaded from a P2P program, Itunes freezes. Once complete, the sync either added nothing to my Ipod, or a message came up saying "the necessary files could not be located" or something like that. The sync successfully added tracks downloaded from Itunes, but nothing else. Is it me or is it the Ipod?

If it's the ipod, what do I do?

SpeakoutLOUD 20:52, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most likely what is happening is iTunes is trying to locate the DRM for the files you got from the P2P, and most likely won't find it...use another program or means of adding your music to your iPod. (i hate apple but know about this stuff xD) This was the issue with my friend's 5th gen iPod. 200.35.168.129 21:47, 13 June 2007 (UTC) Ag for MemTech[reply]

ie7 on vista

edit

Why is it that every time I shut down ie7 on Vista Home Basic me entire browser history is deleted as are all my saved passwords for internet sites?Nicolab 22:06, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Firefox has a setting to do exactly that; IE 7 probably has a similar setting. Just find where it is and disable it. --cesarb 23:30, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
