Sunset at South Street Seaport, Manhattan edit

Sunset at South Street Seaport, Manhattan

This picture was taken by me, from South Street Seaport, Manhattan (Pier 17) in February, 2006. I've also added the picture to the article. South Street Seaport is currently one of the tourist attractions of Manhattan with its beautiful sunset, I thought the picture really reflects it. No modifications or touch-ups were done on the image.

I'm not a photographer or even a hobbyist, so accept my apologies if the picture is not of value.

Comments:

  • I'm inclined to think that it wouldn't make it. The birds in the sky are somewhat distracting, and it might not be the best image to illustrate the subject, especially since the article it's in doesn't mention sunsets. --Pharaoh Hound 11:16, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Can you suggest any other article that it would fit in better? DeliDumrul 16:53, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't think that there's a problem with it being in its current article, but it isn't distinctive of South Street Seaport: it doesn't show anything especially unique to the area. One could get similar photos of many seaports, there isn't anything that makes it easy to identify as South Street Seaport. It's tricky to take sunset silhouette photos in which the location is readily identifiable (for an example of a well executed sunset photo, look at this one) --Pharaoh Hound 23:53, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's a nice photo, but as pointed out, not especially encyclopaedic, and the standards for sunsets are very high! Maybe Contrail would be a good place for it? Stevage 12:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I've seen more photos, I agree that this one just doesn't have enough of it to compete. Contrail article has plenty of beautiful photos already. Thanks for your comments. DeliDumrul 13:53, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
