Water clock edit

I've listed this article for peer review because I find the topic, the research and the article to be examples of human achievement. I have noticed that there are some critiques regarding the article itself, and I hope to fix them so that Wikipedia's contribution to the field can match or at least approach the work done by the inventors, archeologists, and historians involved.

Since this article was nominated for Featured Article before, I have already received some comments by user Aoba47 that I will be addressing:

  • Instances where citations are missing. Aoba marked these with citation needed templates.
  • Two instances of MOS:SANDWICH

I will attempt to fix these issues, in the meantime feel free to point out other problems. Thank you for your time. TZubiri (talk) 18:08, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was unable to find a source for "According to Calisthenes, the persians were using water clocks in 328 BCE to ensure a just and exact distribution of water from qanats to their shareholders for agricultural irrigation.

I was able to find that most of the sources relevant, including those cited in Qanats of Gonabad are either posterior to the original additions, or do not reference Calisthenes at all.

Here are the edits that introduced the contested claim:

February 2012: Maahmaah, photographer of alleged persian water clocks, provides a vague inline citation attributing the claim to Callisthenes. January 2012 : The same editor introduces the 328 date, originally attributed to 'Christensen'. In the same edit, the editor dismisses a citation needed tag by another editor without providing an additional citation.

Thus I will proceed to simply remove this claim. And will proceed to review all contributions by this user, including the fotographies, and will remove any improperly cited material. --TZubiri (talk) 20:58, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, a reputable source https://archive.org/details/islamictechnolog0000hasa/page/56/mode/2up only mentions muslim water clocks starting from the 11th century A.D--TZubiri (talk) 21:04, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • TZubiri Lead looks too short. Leads are difficult to write but this one doesn't seem to cover all the main points of the article as required by MOS:LEAD. Also, History Channel is rated as an unreliable source at WP:RSP. There are also some sources flagged as unreliable or needing full citation. I would recommend fixing these issues, closing this PR, and nominating at WP:GAN, it otherwise looks promising. (t · c) buidhe 05:24, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
