1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?

   I enjoy helping people use Wikipedia in the hope that they will continue to do so on their own. User:JMathewson (WMF) went out of her way to recruit me to work with students at Georgia Tech.

2. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.

   I usually pick a subject area I'm familiar with (primarily Georgia Tech and Stanford University) and work to improve every article in that subject area and fill in coverage gaps where they exist.

3. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).

   All of the following articles have been Today's Featured Article: Tech Tower, Ramblin' Wreck, ANAK Society, James E. Boyd (scientist), Pi

4. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?

   When new users have edited articles on my watchlist, I tend to give them the welcome template and answer any questions they have.

5. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?

   Don't WP:BITE them. Wikipedia has a definite learning curve and it's important to keep that in mind, and explain the various policies as issues arise.

6. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.

   Not especially. I've focused on writing content lately. When I was more involved with watching recent changes and reverting vandalism my userpage was vandalized in some rather amusing ways, though. :)

7. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?

   I tend to log in on a fairly regular basis, mostly on the weekend.

8. How would you make sure your students were not violating Copyright laws?

   With images, I use the Google Image Search extension; with text, it's fairly easy to pick key phrases and Google them. It also helps to be familiar with the source texts.

9. If one of your students had an issue with Copyright Violation how would resolve it?

   Explain that their article will be deleted if they don't write it in their own words. I think the policies are clear enough in that regard.

10. In your _own_ words describe what Copyright Violation is.

    When someone takes a work whose copyright term has not expired (typically things published on or after January 1, 1923) and uses it in a way that is not covered by fair use - for example text in question may be a significant portion of the copyrighted work in question, or is unattributed, or is only slightly paraphrased.

11. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?

    I graduated from Georgia Tech in May 2010.
