  • Date: Monday 15 January 2018 Saturday 13 January 2018

Celebrate Wikipedia Day with a meet-up and discuss what you'd like to see in 2018. Can move this a day early or later at a different time of day if needed, since I've planned a meet-up in Canberra for the evening.

Attendees edit

  • Monday and Weekends are the only days I can get to Sydney, so will definitely come if it's on Monday at 1100. Freikorp (talk) 03:24, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm busy till 1900 on 13th. Will attend after. Regards, Ariconte (talk) 05:25, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tentative edit

Apologies edit

  • I don't get to Sydney until a few days afterwards unfortunately. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 04:19, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Midweek daytime is no good for me due to work reasons, unless near Bankstown or UNSW. Also am flying out on 19th so might be a bit preoccupied. The following week would be better. An evening would be great. @Callanecc: when do you get to Sydney? Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 13:08, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm based in Melbourne these days, so I'll sadly miss this - I'll update myself on the Meetup pages. --Chriswaterguy talk 08:45, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions edit

Would Saturday (13th) or Sunday (14th) be a better day for people? I can move it to the 20th or 21st if that weekend is more preferable. Bidgee (talk) 23:28, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Saturday the 13th I could only do if it was in the evening/night. All those other days work for me anytime though I'd prefer if it wasn't first thing in the morning as I'll have to get the train down from Newcastle to get there. :) Freikorp (talk) 00:26, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Saturday 13th would likely be evening, Sunday is now sadly out for me. Only found out today that Monday, Thursday and Friday's are out for me, so if on the 20th, it would be an afternoon (as I would have to be in Canberra that evening). Bidgee (talk) 03:47, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can't do 20th or 21st. Can do 13th or 14th. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 05:05, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can we lock in a date and venue soon? I'll definitely come but I've got other stuff I need to arrange this weekend and knowing when this meetup will be exactly would make it easier to make my other plans. Freikorp (talk) 03:28, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
13th is my preferred day, however I'm not too sure what venue we could have it. Bidgee (talk) 00:57, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
On the 13th the earliest I could get to the Sydney CBD is 6pm (and that's assuming the train is running on time, which they notoriously are not). The further it is from the CBD the longer it will take me to get there, unless it's either in Hornsby or Strathfield since those are the two train stops before Central haha. Can we at least pick a general area that it will be in? I'd prefer the CBD. Freikorp (talk) 02:02, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Casliber and Freikorp: changed to Saturday 13th January at 6:30pm. Just looking for a venue now, any good venues you've been too and recommend?
:MargaretRDonald (talk) 04:53, 11 January 2018 (UTC) We all travel an inordinately long way (it being Sydney) to meet at 6.30!!! What is the intended length of the meeting? Travelling for three - four hours to attend a meeting of one hour's duration seems something of an ask.. And at 6.30 in the evening, I can only imagine a meeting of quite short duration... Midday or morning on a Saturday seems more reasonable[reply]
I'm curious about how long it is intended to go for as well. That being said, if it's on a Saturday myself and Ariconte can only attend if its in the evening, and unfortunately Bidgee can't do Sunday, so at this stage it looks like Saturday evening is the best time for everyone else.
@Bidgee: so Arinconte can only do from 1900; do you want to change the time to then? I assume if we meet up in the evening we'll make it a dinner event? Since nobody else has picked a place, may I suggest the Emperor's Garden Restaurant in ChinaTown? I went there last time I had to go to Sydney; I liked it. I had no idea what kind of setting this would be taking place in so feel free to suggest something else if dinner isn't the plan. Freikorp (talk) 09:27, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't plan on it going for long, since people will need to travel but it would be a dinner event. Maybe an hour or so (but free to leave if you need to go). Idea for the meetup is to start the Sydney meetups again, maybe find out what the community would like to see from WMAU (projects, partnerships, workshops ect), two days before Wikipedia's birthday but hey never hurts to celebrate it early. Bidgee (talk) 09:47, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so should we consider that settled then? 7pm at the Emperor's Garden Restaurant? Is someone going to make a booking or did you want me to do it? Freikorp (talk) 09:18, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be there - either time is fine. happy for anyone else to make booking...Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 09:26, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK cool, I made a booking for 7pm. The reservation name is Damien. See you all there. Freikorp (talk) 09:47, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Freikorp: So a booking has been made at Emperor's Garden Restaurant? Bidgee (talk) 10:10, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep that's correct. I made it for 6 people; I assume that will be enough. :) Freikorp (talk) 10:15, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new to Wikipedia but would very much like to come if I may Doctor 17 (talk) 03:50, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The more the merrier! Welcome and see you there at 7! Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 06:17, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for coming; looking forward to the next one. Freikorp (talk) 06:47, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
