Note that Distant Worlds Coffeehouse closes at 8pm & that the last two hour reservation starts at 5:45. There is a minimum tab of $30, for which Peaceray will cover the balance, so please spend some money on food or beverages if you are so inclined.

This year's Seattle Wiknic will be on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 12pm to 3pm, in the Washington Park Arboretum. We'll meet at the picnic tables in the meadow area, approximately at 47°38′15″N 122°17′38″W / 47.637435°N 122.293986°W / 47.637435; -122.293986, to the south of the Graham Visitors Center. Check out meta:Cascadia Wikimedians for activities in the broader region. Sign up here! Please indicate what food or drink you plan to bring. Plan on serving at least 8. Frisbees and soccer balls also welcome.

Directions
Note that State Route 520 and the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge will be closed all weekend. There is limited parking at the north parking lots near the Arboretum Foundation Building, so taking public transit is strongly recommended.

The nearest bus stops on 24th Avenue East at McGraw Street are a 15-minute walk (0.6 miles) away; a portion of the walking route is unpaved, but there are paved alternatives that take longer. These bus stops are served by King County Metro route 48, which runs every 15 minutes from two light rail stations on the 1 Line: University of Washington and Mount Baker.

I tried to get a feel for the area with a satellite view and "street view" on the many paths, but I wasn't seeing picnic tables in that area. But basically you can park near the Arboretum Foundation building near the north end of the Arboretum, and then walk south on the now-pedestrianized East Arboretum Trail about 200-250 yards. By bus is actually a bit tricky, because the bus doesn't get any closer than 24th Ave E, and the paths through the park aren't too conducive to walking east-west. The best bet is to bus to 24th & McGraw (#43, #48), walk east on E Lynn, cross Arboretum Drive E on the Arboretum Sewer Trestle (a.k.a. Arboretum Aqueduct), keep going east to the area of the Arboretum Foundation building, then turn right (south) along the East Arboretum Trail.

However, I'm sure you are unaware, but there are specific regulations in place to protect our environment and ensure the enjoyment of all visitors. Unfortunately, there are issues with your event. Specifically: Drones: While amazing and very popular, Drones are strictly prohibited in the Washington Park Arboretum

Permits: Any organized events must be permitted through Seattle Parks and Recreation. (We have no record of a permit for your event in the current calendar.) A permit is required to reserve any area used for a gathering. Events with short turn around may have challenges getting permitted. Here is parks Permit Process document https://www.seattle.gov/parks/rentals-and-permits/outdoor-event-permits Please know, If you proceed with the event without obtaining the necessary permits, you will be asked to leave the premises on Sunday.
