Join Oregon State University and AfroCROWD in creating and improving Black History of the Pacific Northwest on Wikipedia on Friday, February 26th at 1 pm (PST). The event is free. Registration is Required.

Step 1: Username edit

Make sure to add your username to the EVENT DASHBOARD, where we will track event activities (number of edits, editors, etc.).
Or, ask one of the OSU Wiki Team members to add your username to the dashboard during the event.

Event Agenda edit

1:00 (PST) Short welcome from the OSU Wikipedia Team
1:10 Dr. Alexandria Lockett will kickoff the Editathon with a keynote presentation followed by Q&A session
3:00 Editing begins
3:00 Overview of afternoon activities, goals, etc.

Between 3:00 and 4:30 we will have breakout rooms for new and continuing editors. .
- Main: The main room is a general place to discuss, ask questions, and move between breakout rooms
- Breakout room 1: Beginners - Creating a username and adding citations
- Breakout room 2: Intermediate - Discuss articles to edit and get more instruction about editing wikipedia articles
- Breakout room 3: Advanced (hosted by Pete Forsyth) - Advanced Wikipedia editor discussion and training
- Private breakout room: We can also assign you a private breakout room for quiet work or put you in a breakout room with a friend/group to work on the same topic or article

4:30 Reconvene for a wrap-up discussion. What did you learn today? What did you work on today? What are your plans for future Wikipedia editing?
The program will end at 5:00 PM

The three users (who are located within the US and Canada) with the most "words added" from between 12 pm (PST) on February 26 and 12 pm (PST) February 27th will be awarded the prizes. You will be contacted on your Wikipedia user page and via email (if you have gave us your email during the registration or during the event) if you are a top contributor.

How to make a citation (bibliographical reference): edit

1) First, click on the pencil icon on the right to begin using "Visual Editor". Visual editor makes editing easier - like writing a school paper.

2) In Visual Editor, click on the area you want to add the citation. Then click cite. If you have a website as a source, add the website to the blank area.

If you do not have a website source, click manual and follow the prompts. Then click publish. If you have questions, ask an OSU Wiki Team member or go to Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources.

3) Then click publish.
