Wikipedia: What is Black? What is Missing? And What We Can Do About It! is a Black History Month and Active Learning 3-day happening hosted by the York College Center For Teaching, Learning And Educational Technologies, with support from Wikimedia NYC.
Stop by and learn about the encyclopedic project that is Wikipedia and the potential it holds for creating engaging, effective and awarding assignments, whether you teach biology, arts, accounting, Spanish, geology… As a diverse community, we should contribute to diversifying Wikipedia, and Yes, We Can! For this Black History Month we will kick-off with a list of US Black women whose Wikipedia entries are missing or incomplete. Sign-up via the Dashboard

February 20th
editOpportunity for faculty to learn about creating Wikipedia course assignments. Students can complete a training about the encyclopedic project and the rules of knowledge sharing at its foundation. Our Library Wikipedian will be there to inspire and provide guidance.
February 21st
editLibrarians from York College and CUNY's Office of Library Services will walk students and faculty through a hands-on training in creating or editing Wikipedia entries. Cool! A professor from York College will be there to share her experience of teaching with Wikipedia.
February 22nd
editOpportunity for faculty to learn about creating Wikipedia course assignments. York College faculty will be present to share their Wikipedia experiences and expertise, and will be ready to talk about how we can contribute to diversifying Wikipedia. At 2PM, there will be a presentation and Q&A with the Wiki Education organization that provides comprehensive support for instructors teaching with Wikipedia.
