Corning Art+Feminism 2018 was an Art+Feminism edit-a-thon hosted by The Rakow Research Library (CMoG) on Saturday, March 10, 2018, focused on improving articles related to women working in glass.

Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of representation from women. Let’s change that!

We invite people of all gender identities and expressions to participate, particularly transgender and cisgender women.

  • When: Saturday, March 10, 2018, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM EST
  • Where: The Rakow Research Library of The Corning Museum of Glass (website), 5 Museum Way, Corning, NY, 14830 (map, free parking available at the Library)
  • Cost: Free
  • Participants: No Wikipedia editing experience necessary. A training session will be provided at 10:00 AM and help and reference materials will be available throughout the event. RSVPs encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome.
  • What to Bring: Attendees should bring their own laptops and power cords, if possible. Please create a Wikipedia account before the event.‎

    • The panel discussion, moderated by CMoG Director of Education and Interpretation Kris Wetterlund, will focus on the documenting of women artists. Panelists include: Caitlin Hyde, Properties of Glass Demonstrations Team Leader at CMoG; Amy Ruza, Youth and Family Programs Educator at the Rockwell; Ann Welles, artist and Director of Exhibit A
