What, Where, and When?

edit

What? Editors of all experience levels are invited to:

  1. Meet with fellow editors from UIC and the Chicago community.
  2. Help improve biographical and topical articles related to trans and queer activism! (Article list TBA.)
  3. Go on a free, guided tour of the Museum (4:00 - 4:30 PM)
  4. After the event, attend the ninth annual Jane Addams Birthday Lecture given by Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, the Executive Director of the Transgender GenderVariant Intersex Justice Project. (7:00 - 9:00 PM)

From the Hull House's event website:

When the Hull House's staff realized that our beloved and fierce speaker (Miss Major Griffin-Gracy) did not have an entry in Wikipedia, we knew we needed to help queer the most popular encyclopedia in the world. The stats are clear—the overwhelming majority of Wikipedia editors are straight men, and the content reflects the demographics. Only 9% of editors identify as women, and only 1% of editors identify as trans. Join us to help queer Wikipedia!

  1. I'll be helping coordinate the event and help out new editors. The Hull House is a really well-maintained institution with fantastic tours. It has impressive historical artifacts, photographs, and stories related to social work and Jane Addams' legacy that you should check out if you haven't already. Bring a camera! 1. 2% chance I can make it due to work conflict. But a meet-up at Hull House? THE REAL Hull House? Will see what I can do. Prburley (talk) 00:20, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I'm going to try to be there for this one. Mtminchi08 (talk) 04:53, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I am physically in Cincinnati, Ohio through at least Tuesday Labor Day week if not Wednesday (the day before the meet up). If I am back in Chicago, I will make sure to attend unless job duties (selling insurance in DuPage County by appointment) make it impossible to attend. But on the whole, count me in. --Mareklug talk 17:37, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
