editHello. I've been a registered member for some time, but I'm just now getting around to learning how to edit. I found Wikipedia while researching using Google. I'm a Francophile so I would like to edit pages about French history, geography, society, etc. I've come across a number of stubs in that area. I have a pretty good reading knowledge of French. I keep up with current events in France by reading articles on web sites like Libération and listening to Radio France. I like photography. I see a lot of good photos of locations in France on http://Flickr.com that aren't identified well, and I found myself doing Wiki-like editing in comment boxes there and even started keeping a scrapbook of Paris photos on my home page. Many of the photos on Flickr are licensed under Creative Commons. I noticed today for the first time that there is a Commons area here. I also enjoy podcasts, and the whole issue of podsafe music and other content is interesting to me. I'm a Macintosh enthusiast also. I was a medical transcriptionist for twenty years, but got outsourced recently, so I have lots of time to explore Wickipedia.
- Thanks!

New user
editHi,
My name is Milena, I'm 26 years old and I'm from Brazil. I started looking for information on Wikipedia, after my boyfriend told me about it, and a few days ago, I decided to join the team.
My English is not good enough, but I really wish to contribute.
See you all around,

Plagiarist
editI forget where or even when I found the site. I have a reasonable knowledge of computers, physics, role-playing games, and bad cartoons. My spelling however is appalling. Having had a look around after signing up I now have the distinct impression that this site already knows a lot more about those subjects than me. Still, i will hopefully spot some tiny inaccuracy one day and feel a warm glow as I correct it.

Memo from AlMac
Suggestion:
- Get an editor you like to work with, such as a word processor or e-mail, where you can do spell checking, or even grammar checking.
- Cut and paste work there for the purpose of helping your English, then when you have identified and fixed spelling errors (some word processors and e-mail have commands you can use to help you figure out the correct spelling)
- Cut and paste back to wherever your prose is to be seen by the general public.

Artistopia
editHello All,
My main interest is the world of music, more specifically how to help upcoming indie and unsigned artists. I have found Wikipedia to be such an outstanding and useful place on the net to find information, I finally decided to jump into the fray - and perhaps be of assistance here and there in this editing process.
Artistopia - Music Artist Resource is my home on the Internet, but I am a resident of Virginia.
The tutorials are quite helpful! It does take a bit to get the hang of it. So I look forward to rubbing elbows with you all and absorbing this great sea of knowledge...

editHi. I joined Wikipedia last night. I had had some experience prior to last night; I've use Wikipedia for school projects and the like. Only last night did I realize that this was a community run thing, and that you could edit it yourself. I'm excited to help on this wonderful endeavor.
I have a good bit of knowledge of the WASP of WWII, and so I know a little aviation. I'm a dancer, and I speak a little French. Based on my lack of education (I'm only in highschool), however, I'm mostly interested in clerical work; editing, spellchecking, etc. Balletgirl313 20:00, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
Mason Barge
editHi. My name is Mason Barge and I live in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. I'm in my mid-50's. I was an English major in college, after which I went to law school and worked most of my life as a civil rights litigator. I retired a few years ago and now trade securities full-time. I served as a translator in the Vietnam War in 1971. I'm happily married but have no children.
My interests include law, finance, religion, language, history, literature, opera and classical music, gardening, Cole Porter, and whatever else I find interesting from moment to moment. In other words, my functioning brain cell has a short attention span. Right now I'm interested in black female singers in the 1940's-1950's.
I think the Wikipedia is the cat's pajamas and I'm sure I'll be contributing.

Hi Mason: My name is Jeffery Johnson and I am currently living in Carmel CA. I believe that you and I were classmates at Biggs field and worked together in the same facility in Saigon. I was on team 3 while I believe you began on team 1 and then swithched to the KB team. After leaving the Army I went to a small liberal arts college in New Hampshire but found it unsatisfying.
I decided to reenter the Army and had a 26 year career mostly in intelligence but I did spend some time as Artillery officer, Battery Commander and as a division and Army staff officer. I also participated in the Army's Foreign Area Officer program with a principal focus on North East Asia. During my time in the Army I earned a BA in modern foregin languages and an masters in national security administration. Along the way I learned to speak Chinese, Korean, Thai, French, Dutch, as well as Vietnamese although I have not used some for quite some time.
Currently I am working as an operations management analyst for the Sales department at CTB Mcgraw-Hill based here in Monterey, CA. We are an educational assessment company. We plan and develop the State assesment programs that help the states meet the requirements of NCLB act.
When I saw that you chose law and a specialization in civil right litigation I was not suprised in the least. You always had way of looking at civil authority and asking why? Often as not you ended up giving them a good poke in the eye for their trouble. Congratulations on you career. I'm sure that you have helped many people.
I too am maried and have two children. Both have graduated from college and are out on their own now. Well if you would like to continue the conversation in a less public forum my work eamil is the easiest to get right: jeffery_johnson@ctb.com. And if I have confused you with another vietnamese speaking Mason Barge I will beg your pardon for filling your blog sheet with piffle. Jeff

editHave joined but not yet clued up at all. Have made some edits but there's a lot yet to learn (especially all the jargo and technical trickery - I'm not particularly computer-literate). Main interests would include 70s music, British and American politics (especially elections) and comedy, but there seems little left to contribute to the English Wikipedia in these respects! Maybe I should learn Gaelic and work on that one... --High (Hopes) 19:04, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Further to that, I made a number of anonymous edits before getting this account. I also saw recently that's it's possible to reassign anonymous edits, but I can't find the article that mentions how to do this. Does anyone know? Thank you very much! --High (Hopes) 19:56, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

editHi. :) I found Wikipedia through a google search a few months ago, and I loved the idea and wanted to help. I don't have any areas of expertise, so I suspect I'll only be useful for copyediting, but I'll try to help with anything that doesn't require lots of technical knowledge. editHello. I am in Washington State and stumbled on this site while looking for information about Neal Stephenson. A few months later I was doing some research for my work (for a newsstand), and found it to be quite informative. I have recently been amusing myself with the "Random Page" generator. As to my usefulness to Wikipedia? Unsure...

Bergsten
editHi!
My name is Jonas Bergsten, I'm a programmer living in Sweden. My interests most relevant to Wikipedia include Computer Science and photography. I have been using Wikipedia for a while and started editing when I found some incorrect Java-code that I wanted to correct.
My contributions will probably consist of some material to articles, but as I'm a pretty slow writer, but faster in other areas like administration and coding, I will probably be more useful adding categories to images or some sort of other technical tasks. But as I'm still new to this I don't know what it would be yet.
Looking further forward in time, if I'm still active here (which seems likely). I guess I could be interested in building administrative tools or write some other kind of code if there is a need for that.
And last but not least, a big part of my contribution will probably be photos that I have taken.

Drakoniis
editI've used Wikipedia for years (and made a few unlisted contributions to the Black metal page when it was in its early stages) but never really got around to getting an account. I'm currently attending a DigiPen game design school, and my interests include game design, music (listening, performance, composition), art (both digital non-digital), and I used to be interested in linguistics (mainly east-asian languages... not much anymore, no time now).

Bill-on-the-Hill
editGreetings from Los Alamos, New Mexico. I'm a nuclear physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, but all of my articles here are submitted as a private citizen, not a lab employee. 52 years old, married with two sons. My recreational passions are hiking and backpacking (which has a lot to do with the things I contribute here), classical music, and competitive just-about-everything. If you happen to frequent the Internet Chess Club, drop me a message there -- my handle is MeisterZinger and I run the "TriviaBot" trivia contests, for which I get lots of inspiration from Wikipedia articles! I'd be happy to see your messages there as an indication of the cross-pollination between that virtual world and this one.

editHi, I'm 19 and from St. Louis, Missouri. I've been using Wikipedia for a couple years now, but just started editing a few months ago. I'd be eager to help with anything else I can, however. Eweisser 20:40, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Someone with a random name, x42bn6?
editIt is NOT random, though I cannot remember what it means.
Anyway, I am x42bn6, with no capital letter at the start! I cannot remember what it means (as I said above) nor of its origins. If anyone knows, please tell me. It's one of life's greatest mysteries. -.-; My full real name is Jason Ta-Liang Lim. I am a British Chinese (deduce from name), and my Chinese name means big and generous. I am a skinny, underweight student (I can never seem to gain weight), and I am a very cheap person. Sheesh.
I use the name x42bn6 for everything, for Hotmail, Gmail, and for most of the forums I go to. Most of my time spent online is at a forum which I doubt is an idea to post here lest I get admonished for advertising. In any case, I've spent nearly 3 years of active posting there, and I hope to do so at Wikipedia.
I'm currenly a Year 12 student at a Sixth Form in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, studying Chemistry, Physics, Computing and Further Mathematics. I have done my Advanced Subsidary examinations and I am starting my full Advanced Level courses. I am naturally gifted with numerical skills. I also enjoy writing and computer graphics design. I would like to do some computer music work because I can play the piano by ear. I can't read music scoresheets though. :(
I don't know much general knowledge, so my contributions to Wikipedia may be limited. However, I do know a lot of common grammar mistakes (not through experience!) and I have issues with American English. As far as I am concerned, America is at the edge of the Earth where all the sea monsters swallow up ships.
...
Ignore that last sentence.
I hope that I can become an active Wikipedia member, and get to know a lot of you.

Bndr McFarlane
editHello. This is Bndr McFarlane. I am a follower of Sanjan, a small belief system for which there has been much growing support in Southern California, and even beyond. I have attempted to give Sanjan its due acknowlegement for those who are interested to learn about it, but have met resistence by many Wikipedians. I believe this is due to prejudice. Show your support for Sanjan on the anti-deletion page.
Forever looking skyward, B. McFarlane

editI'm a Linux kernel programmer. The primary areas I intend to contribute to are mathematics and computing.
My immediate interests are in special functions, particularly elliptic functions and elliptic integrals, even more specifically, integration in terms of Jacobian elliptic functions. editHello,
I've been here for a few days and have been doing a bit of editing. I thought I'd introduce myself.
I currently live in East Texas, USA, where I pastor a couple of churches. I have broad interests, but I'm especially interested in religion (particularly Protestant Christianity), music theory, and various Internet-related and Linux-related topics.
I'm currently planning to further develop the article Textual criticism. So far, I've mostly done cleanup.--mssever (Blog) 21:13, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

editI've edited a few articles previously as an unregistered user, mostly in my areas of interest - retail, , urban issues and transportation, local geography and history. I live in a northwestern suburb of the Greater Toronto Area. Yesterday, I decided to take the plunge and officially sign up. I am still learning how to edit, but so far, I've written an article (on a local short line, the Orangeville-Brampton Railway), updated and edited a few others, and even nominated one article for deletion when searching Toronto street names. I hope to become even more active in Wikipedia as I become more confident. Spmarshall42 03:35, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Where have you been all my life?
46-year-old self-employed consultant, former newspaper reporter and editor, former technical writer, degrees in rhetoric and journalism -- if this was a job, I would want it.
Interests: computers, botany, ecology, environmental protection, Cajun and Zydeco music and culture, American history. Copy editing.
I might spend hours on minor language issues, punctuation, formatting -- once I'm sure I'm competent with the Wikipedia formatting and style conventions.
Hate the name Wikipedia, BTW, but WTF, you gotta call it something. Not a big fan of funny neologisms.
I coined the terms "sweeper" and "stopper" to define behavior of cars on two-lane highways. A sweeper is a car right in front of you that's going faster than you want to go, so he opens up space ahead; a stopper is a car behind you going slower than you want to go, so he keeps everyone else off your tail. This comes from seven years of driving the "18-mile stretch" that links the Florida Keys to the mainland.
I'm passionate about language, knowledge, and communication, but I guess I'm a middle-of-the-road kind of driver.

editI am quitting after only being here for a few months. Every time I try to be honest and nice and help Wikipedia's credibility issue by suggesting or making changes, someone either just reverts my work, lashes ad hominem attacks at me for no reason, or just acts like a brute, trying to discredit any changes I make. I recently got my doctorate in neuroscience and was hoping to bring some of my hard earned knowledge to this project, but it is easily de-legitimized by others, so what's the point. *frustration* Goferwiki 28 June 2005 07:06 (UTC)
User = AlMac = Alister Wm Macintyre
editInitially I intend to post security related topics, starting with Security breaches. We have to be careful with Upper case lower case, since Wiki is sensitive to that in the names of topics.
My career has been a Jack of All Trades, Master of Some, in IBM's business midrange computer systems, now known as eServer iSeries, although over time there have been so many different names, that even professionals like myself cannot remember all of them.
I am also interested in some kinds of simulation games. People who have been in that hobby for several decades may know me because of some games I designed, simulating time travel and space travel.
I am now aged in my 60's and have been enjoying Science Fiction since I was 9 years old, introduced to it by a Radio Play using the book "Black Cloud" by Hoyle. Currently my favorite ScFi on TV is Star Gate command.
I may say more later. Hopefully I shall become Your Pal Al

editHello, it's true, I've got that "new wiki user' smell about me.
Not sure where I first heard about the site; it's been, increasingly, the go-to site I've been directed to by links on blogs, etc.
I have experience in both creative and business writing, so basically, I can punch up one's resume, make them laugh, or get some good erotica cooking!
I'm a gay guy. "NickBurns" is a "nom de plume"; he is a character I created in a serialized story I wrote that never saw the light of day.
My interests are pretty esoteric; aside from writing, my main interests fall in the entertainment field, particularly the much-aligned field of daytime serials. I also have an enyclopedic love of music, and a serious addiction to news.
Thanks!

editHi there, wikkans! wait a minute... that might not sound right...
Anyway, I'm just a guy, you know? I'm facinated by many subjects, and lurked around the wikki for a month or so before I started editing, and my experience so far has been pleasant.
