Picture

Hi!

I am creating my profile on Wiki and I cannot upload a picture I took myself and own - there should be no issue but I receive a notification (We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia). Can you help please?

Jana Jana Koci (talk) 02:17, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure what exactly did you mean by "profile" here. If you meant User Page, which is a page that tells other editors about your activities on Wikipedia, then personal photos are not necessary. If you meant a Wikipedia article, however, please note that creating an article about yourself or anyone/anything related to you is strongly discouraged.
I see that you've already uploaded a photo of yourself. If that's the image in question, I think it is ready to be used already. I would agree with the notification in that it is hard to tell that you took the photo all by yourself. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 03:25, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Jana Koci, you have created a draft for an article about yourself. This is not a good idea: please read and digest Wikipedia:Autobiography. -- Hoary (talk) 07:57, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Jimfbleak subsequently deleted your draft for an article about yourself. -- Hoary (talk) 01:02, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chen Zihan -

edit

the birth year of Chen Zihan is incorrect. indicated in Wikipedia is 1978 but her birth year should be 1975. 103.6.151.158 (talk) 06:46, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The birth date discrepancy is already covered in the biography, so I fail to see what your point is. Cullen328 (talk) 06:51, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

edit

Hi! I tried to edit the site of Avri Levitan, because everything that is noted there sounds like AI and he wanted me to change that. But everytime I edit something, it is gone the next day. May somebody help me with that? 91.67.220.216 (talk) 08:47, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP editor. Your IP address has not edited Avri Levitan and other IP edits in recent months have not complied with policy. You should not be editing any Wikipedia article on behalf of another person. Please read WP:BOSS. If Levitan or anyone else has a problem with the article, then Talk: Avri Levitan is the place for those people to discuss it. Make formal edit requests there. Setting up a Wikipedia account, which is free and easy, will facilitate communication. Cullen328 (talk) 08:59, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Printing Wikipedia

edit

How come I cannot print Wikipedia articles? I know my printer and computer are working as they print other stuff, but there doesn't seem to be a connection when I try to print Wikipedia Slinovitz (talk) 10:49, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Printing may be of help. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:07, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Slinovitz In addition to that advice, one alternative is to use the "Download as PDF" tool and subsequently print that version locally. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:36, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No left click! No {{Inspect diff}} thing, impossible to search from Watchlist

edit

Watchlist refreshes but no inspect diff, no operative links (hist, diff etc). Takes five mins to load. Every other page is per normal. OK. Is this due to using code etc so old we would build a better encyclopedia with the walls of Lascaux ?! Wot gives? ——Serial Number 54129 13:48, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Serial Number 54129 My watchlist is doing all the things it normally does: I use the default WP:VECTOR22 skin. If you are not using that, try it. Then report to WP:VPT if the problem persists. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:56, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just wish I could find out why it literally changed out of the blue—a couple of hours ago, it was fine, you see. Anyway, thank you very much Mike. ——Serial Number 54129 14:01, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mabel Normand

edit

Hello, I am great-nephew to Mabel Normand and I have been promoting my great aunt Mabel’s career and life for 50yrs of my 75. The biography which appears in Wikipedia mention the same old hash. I have had her first biography published in FILMS IN REVIEW Sept 1974. I have given interviews about her life & career and also give talks and know a considerable amount of information from the family point of view and our own resources which haven’t seen light of day. I would like to write something about my great aunt which comes from my knowledge of those facts. In the present biography in Wikipedia things are mentioned like the Broadway Musical Mack & Mabel to which I contributed to the Librettist, The Stevie Nix song MabelNormand but my public protest is not indicated. Can you tell me how I can legitimately have a say in this biography. It is not entirely accurate nor does it give a fair look at Mabel’s contribution as an early pioneer of motion pictures. Instead it sadly dwells on the negative incidents and not enough on her positive contributions or her private personal happiness events of life nor her deep convictions for fairness in life for the poor. There is no mention of her charitable acts to support orphans and her deeply held religious convictions. These are facts of her life which are as important as the same old rehash. Also Mabel was christened Mabel not Ambel and her father was Claude not Clod. Where do people get this nonsense from? I would like to write the story as according to the facts we her family have. Personally I deeply offended at having to endure any longer this bullying scandal invented in Hollywood Babylon after her death. As her blood relative I have every right to have my say and I would be grateful for your help and advice. The biography in Wikipedia as it stands is not fully factual and has become more fantasised each time it is edited. Who is the person editing it now. At one point I had through Wikipedia the choice to review what was written or contributed by the writer of the time about 5 years ago. What has happened to being able to contact the editor directly. As a living relative I would like to be included in the mini bio as I have seen in other bio’s. with thanks for your help and understanding in this matter Yours sincerely Stephen Normand Great-Nephew of Mabel Normand Stephen Great-Nephew of Mabel Normand (talk) 15:23, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The way Wikipedia works is that all content is based on what reliable sources have already written about a subject, we can't base content on your personal experience. However, it does sound as if you have done some press yourself, so that could possibly be used as a basis for some article content. Obviosuly you have a conflict of interest here, so the way for you to contribute would be to suggest changes at Talk:Mabel Normand. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 15:58, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a reason why you're not using your old account, @Mack&Mabel18, on which you signed off similarly in this comment? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:39, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One thing that I can say for certain is that Hollywood Babylon is not a reliable source for anything. It is sensationalistic trash filled with proven falsehoods. Cullen328 (talk) 18:06, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"in 1975, The New York Times said of it, "If a book such as this can be said to have charm, it lies in the fact that here is a book without one single redeeming merit."" Yeah, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 18:34, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article Review

edit

How to receive an article review? How long of a wait is normal wait time? Article is in "draft" ready to be published draft:Nerijus Glezekas.

Thank you Petrichor2.0 (talk) 17:04, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It can take some time, as of right now there are 2,750 pending submissions in Category:Pending AfC submissions, the oldest of which has been pending for three months. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 17:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Petrichor2.0 The draft now has the previous decline notices restored. There is now a big blue box which would allow it to be re-submitted to review. However, you should not do that until you have updated the draft to address the concerns of the previous reviewers. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:23, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer, I really appreciate it. I have been perfecting the article for year now, adding notable sources and addressing the issues previewers found. Hopefully, it will be to their liking now. Petrichor2.0 (talk) 17:27, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Petrichor2.0, your draft is overtly promotional and shot through with non-neutral phrases. It needs heavy editing to bring it into compliance with the Neutral point of view, which is a core content policy. Cullen328 (talk) 18:29, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An unreferenced sentence such as He is recognized for his musicianship, substantial lyrical work and charismatic stage personality (who says so?) is blatantly promotional and completely unacceptable. Everything in the article must be credited to a reliable independent source. Shantavira|feed me 08:41, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Petrichor2.0 Against my advice, you have re-submitted the draft and I predict it will be declined again. Whole sections (e.g. "Influences") are uncited, which is against the policies for biographies of living people because of lack of verification. The other comments made above are also still relevant. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:50, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've given Petrichor's draft an edit. I don't know if the subject meets notability, but at least it is not promotional anymore. Zanahary (talk) 02:32, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Harv errors

edit

Hi Folks!! On the Rudolf Roessler article which I updated recently its coming up with harv errors in orange. I don't know what the problem is. Any ideas? scope_creepTalk 21:05, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep: I'm not seeing any harv errors in orange. Did you resolve this yourself since you did further edit the article after posting this question? If not, perhaps you can indentify the reference or references that are showing error messages. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:00, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: Its seems to be working. I checked it on Opera and no sign of the errors. I use Firefox and switched everything off, all the add-in and still there, restarted my pc. It states in the first ref "Harv error: linked from CITEREFAccoceQuet1967" in orange. Its weird. scope_creepTalk 22:10, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: Possibly one of the scripts im using that has a reporting bug. scope_creepTalk 22:11, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: Its all of the references being reported. This is a link [1] scope_creepTalk 22:17, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Was it really necessary to ping me three times in the same discussion thread within a seven-minute period? Doing so reminds me of people who repeatedly tap on the bell at the front desk of a hotel or at the register counter of a restaurant because they're unable to wait to be help or because they're not being helped as quickly as they want. Anyway, it seems like DuncanHill as figured out the nature of the problem you're experiencing; so, perhaps things will now be resolved. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:33, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see it, and also on Alexander von Humboldt. The error messages are generated by User:Trappist the monk/HarvErrors.js. The documentation for that says "This is a "wrong section" error; You included short footnote {{sfn|Anderson|2021}} inline, and there is a valid full citation for it in the bottom matter, but it's in the wrong section, such as "Further reading". It should be in either "Bibliography", or "Works cited" (which must be a level two section heading). Dark orange by default." As far as I can see it should not be showing on these pages. Ping @Trappist the monk: DuncanHill (talk) 22:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see the messages that you are complaining about. I'm using the latest version of Chrome and have looked at the offending articles with it and with ms Edge. It has been said here that the messages are not appearing in the Opera browser so that suggests that this may be a Firefox-only issue.
Trappist the monk (talk) 13:20, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trappist the monk: I use Edge and I see them. DuncanHill (talk) 16:47, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Barry Devorzon

edit

I am Barry Devorzon and on May21,2024 I edited my Wikipedia Bio to correct errors, adjust time line and add additional information. When I was finished I hit Publish. When I search on my name the original Bio information is displayed instead of the newly edited bio I submitted inMay 21, 2024. What is the problem, or does it take a certain amount of time for someone to sign off on it before it will be posted? Bdevorzon (talk) 21:42, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You've edited the talk page, but your contribution history does not indicate you edited the article itself; if you think you did, it didn't work. You shouldn't be editing the article directly anyway; please use the talk page to propose edits as edit requests. 331dot (talk) 21:51, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bdevorzon. Did you by chance happen to read the responses you received to Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1225#Barry Devorzon? They contain information that you might find helpful. Some additional information was also added to your user talk page, including suggestions on how to ask for assistance if you feel that the content written about you on Wikipedia is incorrect or otherwise out-of-date. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:55, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find the search box on the home page. Can you help me Alanwexler2 (talk) 22:00, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming that you're referring to the English Wikipedia homepage, the search box is on the top right for desktop, or would appear after tapping the magnifier icon for mobile webpage. If you still can't find the searchbox, you can still search with Google by typing site:en.wikipedia.org after your search phrase. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 23:20, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Alanwexler2: As you're a new user and it doesn't appear you're editing from a mobile device, the search field should be at the top of the page in the centre. If you can't see it, assuming you're using a Windows computer, you can make it active by using the key combination Alt+⇧ Shift+F. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:13, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
