How to add a background color to an image in an infobox?

Suspected Copyvio

edit

In Koenigsegg Gemera most of the text is from (https://www.koenigsegg-registry.com/models/gemera) as seen here (https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&oldid=1236803799&action=compare&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.koenigsegg-registry.com%2Fmodels%2Fgemera). But I am not sure, can anyone help? Leoneix (talk) 07:39, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Leoneix, to me it looks like that site copied from Wikipedia and not the other way around. If you use mw:WWT to look who added the sections in question and when, you'll see they were added by multiple different users, and some time apart. I think it's unlikely all these people copied from the same place at different times. Rummskartoffel 13:35, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Rummskartoffel I used wikiblame and I too saw multiple users added that, so had doubts. Anyways, Thanks for confirming. Leoneix (talk) 14:05, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now that you (plural) have done the detective-work (thanks!), please add {{Backwards copy}} to the talkpage so others will understand what the situation is. DMacks (talk) 05:35, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tables, infoboxes, Prekmurje Slovene

edit

In article Prekmurje Slovene#Morphology. Unfortunately I messed up. Where can they help you create suitable tables? Doncsecztalk 11:25, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Doncsecz~enwiki: I made some changes.[1] Does that look OK? PrimeHunter (talk) 13:34, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know anything about the subject but I noticed three of the table headings in the Neuter section say masculine and not neuter. Is that right? PrimeHunter (talk) 13:43, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Thank you. There are similarities between masculine and neuter in few cases. Doncsecztalk 14:38, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Doncsecz~enwiki: Here is a version following Help:Table more closely with class="wikitable" for our normal table styling:
Declension patterns of feminine nouns
ending in a (Prekmurian Slovene)
Grammatical case Grammatical number
Singular Dual Plural
Nominative -a -i/ej -e
Genitive -e -∅/ej -∅
Dative -i/ej -ama -an
Accusative -o/ou -i/ej -e
Locative -i/ej -ama/aj -aj
Instrumental -of(v)/-ouf(v) -ama -ami
I also made some other changes. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:59, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please close or delete my account

edit

Please close (delete) my account or send me the instructions on how to do it. I would like to disassociate myself from Wikipedia as they do not use academic standards for encyclopedic writing: User:MDaisy Thank you. MDaisy (talk) 19:18, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Closure of an account is not possible. Just stop using the account. 110.2.116.59 (talk) 20:06, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MDaisy: An account can't be deleted, but you can see the procedure on "vanishing" your account at WP:VANISH. – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 21:16, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MDaisy Is there a specific concern or issue that you have? 331dot (talk) 21:22, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your kind response. I've written for several different wikis including Wikipedia (mainly quietly editing here) and have received a couple Barnstars for my efforts. I've had an WP account since 2008. Yesterday I had a rather hostile encounter concerning the Kamala Harris Border Czar story. In fact, MSN mentioned the WP fight https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/wikipedia-sleuths-fight-over-whether-harris-was-border-czar/ar-BB1qHfJC?fbclid=IwY2xjawESShtleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHZyzCT_6Rj3xbTn1MW77MI_eJhX948Khl6NTo7D_oRPdPcHGdM5VTvEscg_aem_p26nYoukctGYaynfO8HvEQ. I am an old dinosaur and was taught 40+ years ago how to write a research paper. I understand what is considered an original (primary) source and what is not. I also understand how to write an objective essay or article. I am concerned the Kamala Harris Border Czar story is biased and communicated that. I also offered some neutral writing that could be used in said article and it was refused. What CONCERNS me most is both the article and talk page was locked so no one including me could offer suggestions. I thought a wiki was a COLLABORATIVE effort and in order to have that you must allow open discussions. You can see the talk page here: Talk:Kamala HarrisI also contacted a presumed admin who was not helpful and in fact disparaged my contributions to Wikipedia. I can find better ways to spend my time where I am appreciated and validated. In fact, I love posting a X as Elon Musk has done to return free speech to the Internet. To repeat I am a firm believer in free speech and unbiased, objective writing. Thank you again for doing what a wiki is supposed to do by reaching out. MDaisy (talk) 22:00, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MDaisy, I'm sorry that this very minor squabble in the ongoing culture wars of (to me) a distant continent have impinged on the editing activities that both of us enjoy. Bear in mind that Wikipedia has hundreds of thousands of editors and (I presume, at least) hundreds of admins, who each have their own opinions and do not operate in lockstep as a group mind. The actions of one or a few around a specific, highly charged and still-ongoing issue do not necessarily represent Wikipedia's setted policies and procedures.
I'll shortly be taking a Wikibreak because upcoming real-life activities (attending a Worldcon) will occupy me for a week or so. I suggest you take one also, and see how you feel about matters in due course. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.67.235 (talk) 00:40, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, the Skwaatchmen  :) ——Serial Number 54129 12:27, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
87.81.230.195, {{NUMBEROFADMINS}} returns 856, although Wikipedia:List of administrators/Inactive shows 88 admins as having no contributions within the past season. Folly Mox (talk) 13:01, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Folly Mox. I knew there was a list, but not how to find it. Glad to see my guesstimation was roughly correct. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.67.235 (talk) 21:18, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would gently suggest that you see WP:FREESPEECH. Private entities like X and Wikipedia can control or (in the case of Musk) choose not to control, speech on their websites. Personally I think Musk ruined Twitter, but to each their own. Collaboration does require discussion but it is not unrestrained with no limitations whatsoever. Keep in mind that every other contributor to Wikipedia is not necessarily aware of your background and knowledge. It isn't required to study the history and background of users one communicates with. If you have been subjected to personal attacks or other policy violations, that's a matter for WP:ANI. 331dot (talk) 21:35, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

redirect

edit

I would like a simplified explanation of the use of "redirect". I am completely confused.

this is a history entry on the article that i created.

"moved page Joe Chambers (Museum Founder) to Joe Chambers (music producer) over a redirect without leaving a redirect: Revert undiscussed move (WP:RMUM) "

underlined [I added] text makes no sense at all to me. Please translate to plain english. And help me understand redirect in general. After I moved the article previously, I think a message said "clean up redirects" or similar.

Thanks very much.

MikeMARS52 MikeMARS52 (talk) 19:26, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MikeMARS52! It looks like the move you made to (Museum Founder) was undone. I can't speak to what the subject is known for, but at least as per the guide on titles as well as on capitalization, words that are not proper nouns do not get capitalized.
The "moved ... over a redirect without leaving a redirect" means that the page was moved back to (music producer) (which became a redirect page when you moved it) and did not leave behind a redirect page at (Musuem Founder). – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 21:09, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MikeMARS52 For general information on redirects, see WP:Redirect. Note also WP:Article titles which is relevant. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:11, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit icon of a portal ?

edit

The transgender portal icon is a puzzle piece that fades from pink to blue. I now know that the puzzle piece seems to be just the default portal icon, but on top of having disconcerting implications, it is also just not a commonly used symbol. For these reasons I was motivated to create an account and replace the icon with a trans flag fitting the style of the rainbow flag used in the LGBT portal, but I can't see how to do that. Advice ? Somoli (talk) 20:52, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Somoli: File:Portal Transgender.svg is selected by ["transgender"] = "Portal Transgender.svg" in Module:Portal/images/t. The page is protected and you need consensus to change it. You could start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:55, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
