Public figure Wikipedia

Hi,

what are the steps for a person to have a Wikipedia page?, and does it need to be the person applying for it, or management team can request on their behalf?

Kindest Regards Peculiar Flavours Mgmt 2A04:4A43:4F2F:E2F1:55C9:E19B:BA89:DE5C (talk) 02:25, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They need to pass the general guidelines for encyclopedic notability. See WP:GNG and WP:ANYBIO. There are other relevant guidelines. Please also be aware that promotional editing and editing on subjects where you may have a conflict of interest is not allowed. See also WP:PAID. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:29, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. If you think you have a subject that meets our guidelines you can suggest the page be created at WP:RA. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:31, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if the person is truly notable someone who doesn't have a conflict of interest will likely create the article on them someday. ‍ Relativity 02:47, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest you reframe your question as "what are the criteria for Wikipedia to have an article about a person? Others have answered the question.
Note that if such an article is created (preferably not by the subject or anybody associated with them) it will not belong to the subject, it will not be controlled by the subject, and it will not necessarily say what the subject would like it to say. Please see the policy page WP:OWN and the essay WP:PROUD. ColinFine (talk) 10:57, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Arabic

edit

I am writing to report that Wikipedia Arabic has a message on every page promoting lies about the Israel/Hamas war in Gaza. Every page of Wikipedia Arabic has a banner at the top of the page, even when the topic has nothing to do with the war. This is extremely disturbing, and only visible to users who choose Arabic as the language. Please remove this immediately. If you want the banner to remain, allow it on topics related to the conflict, but someone wanting to know what a bathroom is in Arabic should not have an indoctrinating banner at the top of the page. 2600:1700:2980:FE30:E0FA:2B5D:8EE:9DF4 (talk) 13:32, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New user - Mentor

edit

Hello. How can I know who my mentor is? Thank you in advance Sofia009 (talk) 14:46, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sofia009, according to Wikipedia:Growth Team features/Mentor list, you will see your mentor's welcome message in a 'Your mentor' box on your 'Homepage' tab. TSventon (talk) 15:03, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, @TSventon. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find it. I quite remenber that box the first time I logged in, but it does not longer appear. Sofia009 (talk) 17:00, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sofia009, have you gone to your preferences and ticked the three new user boxes at the bottom of the first tab? I have just done that and I now have a Homepage tab to the left of my Userpage tab and there is a box with my mentor to the right of my Homepage. TSventon (talk) 17:42, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sofia009, @TSventon note that "only 50% of new accounts get a mentor (as of October 2023)," it's a thingie in progress. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:01, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång, thank you, i have opted out of mentorship again. TSventon (talk) 21:59, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think "he" is repetitive here (I didn't write these sentences)? He was likely born between 1588 and 1590. Pieter van der Borcht was born and died in Brussels, according to 17th-century Flemish art historian Cornelis de Bie's work on painters called Het Gulden Cabinet. He was a pupil of the prominent Brussels painter of landscapes and civil celebrations Denis van Alsloot from 1604. He became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1625. He must have traveled to Augsburg in or around 1615 as a work mentioned in the Hofstede de Groot Index Cards was inscribed: "Peeter van der Borcht van Brussel in Ausborch. 1615." @Rdenney: I suggest you go to Special:Preferences and ensure that your correct email address is listed. Where did you ask to be notified of watchlist changes via email? GoingBatty (talk) 18:05, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bot or User keeps editing my Edits

edit

I work for a celebrity personally and I had been adding some edits, especially their awards. Now, the format is complying and ok. Which kind of format should I use for the references if this user "WikiShovel" keeps deleting them or telling me something is wrong with it. 24.205.151.184 (talk) 22:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As an employee you have a conflict of interest. Please read and comply with WP:COI, particularly WP:PAY. You are required to make a paid editor disclosure.
Your IP has made no previous edits, so we cannot evaluate the edits. Which article are you referring to? Pinging user:Wikishovel. Meters (talk) 22:46, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For information, Wikishovel last edited 21:34, 14 December 2023. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 22:52, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds as if you and your boss have a (very common) misconception about Wikipedia. Neither you nor your boss own or control Wikipedia's article about them, and you should not be editing the article directly. Once you have declared your status as a paid editor, you will be welcome to make edit requests on the article's talk page, and an uninvolved editor will review your requests, and decide whether and how they should be implemented.
