Reccomended Editing

How do I access my page of recommended pages to edit? Lindgerman (talk) 01:51, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lindgerman. Do you mean Special:Homepage? Qcne (talk) 08:15, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank you. Lindgerman (talk) 21:02, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is Rod Gardin notable. MagicalPrince863 (talk) 03:40, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MagicalPrince863, if you think that he is or may be notable, then here, in this message thread, provide links to three good sources about him. -- Hoary (talk) 04:23, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems unlikely that he's notable. Allegations were made against him, but not proved.   Maproom (talk) 06:41, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me edit it?

edit

I referenced List of tallest buildings and added a map to List of tallest towers.

The map shows the location of towers over 400 meters tall.

However, I think I mislabeled the location of the towers.

Can someone please correct the label correctly? Ox1997cow (talk) 06:30, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I messed with it a little. How does it look on your screen? Closhund/talk/ 12:02, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing things up. Ox1997cow (talk) 15:38, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Urgent: I lost my draft

edit

Hi!

I was editing a draft and I lost my progress by mistakenly shutting the tab. Is there any way to recover it? Unfrequenteditor123 (talk) 07:30, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you hadn't clicked "publish changes" at some point, unfortunately your work is probably lost. 331dot (talk) 07:42, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've done this occasionally so I have sympathy. The answer seems to be no, because if you do not hit the "Publish changes" button, it will not be saved on the Wikipedia servers. The page should have a pop up warning that changes may be lost if you do not save them.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:47, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There's a chance Wikipedia will have saved your unsaved changes and you can just start editing the same page again, but in my experience that's inconsistent and more common after a pop-up shows up. If you don't get that, there's probably nothing you can do. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 08:04, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I feel for you. I've done this in the past as well. It is a real pain. That is the reason I do sentences now and save every time. scope_creepTalk 08:18, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe in some file in the browser's tmp directory/subdirectory/folder? -- Hoary (talk) 08:31, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My motto when something like this happens is that when you re-create it, your draft will be even better the next time as you've had the experience of writing it, plus sometimes a new start can give you a fresh perspective on the content and structure! Sorry, I know that probably doesn't help much... Qcne (talk) 11:32, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia won't have it, but your browser might. In my Vivaldi browser, closed tabs go into a list of closed tabs, and if I need my unsaved data back, I can sometimes get it, by restoring the closed stab, still in Edit mode with the preview window still there, including my unsaved-by-Wikipedia content. At some point, my Vivaldi closed tabs must eventually get cleaned out (probably configurable; everything else is) but I've never run into that limit yet. This has saved my behind on numerous occasions. Mathglot (talk) 04:57, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary footnote

edit

User Kazuha1029 insisted on adding unnecessary footnote to TPE templates (Special:Diff/1164721063, Special:Diff/1165861935, Special:Diff/1126858575, Special:Diff/1164695919, Special:Diff/1116498829, Special:Diff/1148849482), he say the footnote "did not violate any English Wikipedia rules" (Special:Diff/1169197932), the footnote is the first time that a user in en wiki has added such footnote to TPE templates, so I came here for advice. 寒吉 (talk) 19:48, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what a TPE template is, but the diff you posted to IKF World Korfball Championship seems to be to an article, not a template.
Either way, open a discussion with the user on the talk page of one of the articles, or on the user's talk page. ColinFine (talk) 22:22, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
寒吉, if the question is about how to refer to, or to describe, what is most commonly called "Taiwan", or whether or not a supplementary footnote is desirable, then both of you might bring up the matter at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Taiwan. -- Hoary (talk) 22:59, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: TPE templates mean Chinese Taipei, you can see Special:PermaLink/1164721063#Pools composition, Special:PermaLink/1165861935#Participating nations, Special:PermaLink/1126858575#Results, Special:PermaLink/1164695919#Results, Special:PermaLink/1116498829#All time medal table, Special:PermaLink/1148849482#Membership. I have already discussed with him, he said the footnote "did not violate any English Wikipedia rules".
@Hoary: I know Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Taiwan, but the editors there seem to be inactive, that's why I came here for advice. 寒吉 (talk) 04:01, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Kazuha1029 had already added these TPE footnotes on the Chinese Wikipedia, but footnotes were removed by many users, and Kazuha1029 had received a warning in March 2023, telling Kazuha1029 that footnotes violated the Chinese Wikipedia policies (zh:Special:Diff/76474570), but now Kazuha1029 brought footnotes to the English Wikipedia. Even if footnotes did not violate the regulations of the English Wikipedia, there is no need to add footnotes to the sports article at all. The content of footnotes can be read in Chinese Taipei. The sports article should use Chinese Taipei (TPE), and footnote is only needed when the article uses a non-neutral name, like Special:Diff/1168428847#cite note-4 and Special:Diff/1163977026#cite ref-disputes 15-5. 寒吉 (talk) 04:28, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That an addition doesn't "violate any English Wikipedia rules" is a feeble justification for it. Rather, does it improve the article? ¶ In edit summaries, the other editor has talked of a "standard TPE footnote". "Standard" has various meanings. I wonder which of these is meant here. ¶ "National without household registration" is I think unrelated to sports, but the GA process shown in Talk:National without household registration suggests that Sammi Brie has given some thought to the naming of Taiwan; you might invite them to comment. -- Hoary (talk) 04:46, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
IP users added footnotes to a large number of articles on the Chinese Wikipedia without discussion in 2016. Afterwards, many footnotes were removed and restored by other users, but Kazuha1029 regarded the remaining footnotes that were not removed as "Standard". 寒吉 (talk) 05:03, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hi, this is a new one on me—the GAN I did didn't exactly cover the wording of Chinese Taipei. I see that there are similar footnotes and wording in Little League World Series and several LLWS articles; 2007 Summer Universiade and similar; World Games and similar; APEC New Zealand 2021 et al. (they are also members of APEC as Chinese Taipei). The question—possibly one best taken up by a sports or Olympics WikiProject—would be if the name is so unfamiliar as to merit footnoting in articles of this type when it appears. I would have some questions about how we list the host country—it is listed right now as Taiwan, but the IKF use Chinese Taipei there as well [1]. (Also refactored the discussion a little bit.) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:15, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to Sammi Brie for pointing out that some articles on the English Wikipedia also use similar footnotes, but the number of articles with similar footnotes is extremely low. I doubt adding similar footnotes that there is a consensus first. If the footnotes are used for Chinese Taipei in non-sports articles, I am OK with it. Sports articles should have used Chinese Taipei, which is why there was a referendum question in Taiwan in 2018 about using "Taiwan" to participate in sports events (2018 Taiwanese referendum#Questions and results) . 寒吉 (talk) 05:52, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be wise to bring this to, say, WT:SPORTS (with some links out from WT:OLYMPICS and maybe some PRC/ROC-specific projects)? Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 06:56, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sports#Footnote. 寒吉 (talk) 09:49, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
