Article name problem

edit

I recently moved an article to change its name but the article does not show up on the Wikipedia search box when I type in its new name. Can someone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?

This has been asked at the Teahouse. Please limit your question to either venue to avoid duplicating editor effort. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:11, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editing same article after edit-war notice and avoiding edit-war blocks.

edit

They say more than 3 reverts in 24 hours. So, after 24 hours, the same revert is fine?

Where did I make mistakes in my edits here?

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Forced_conversion_of_minority_girls_in_Pakistan&action=history

There is also an administrator's noticeboard for edit-war, where editors are blocked. --Knight Skywalker (talk) 03:42, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Knight Skywalker. The prohibition on three reverts in a 24 hour period is a bright line rule but edit warring can come in many forms. Slow edit warring can take place over many days or even weeks. Making a fourth revert a few minutes after the 24 hours has passed is another type of edit warring that can be described as a variation of "gaming the system". Talk page discussions are good and edit warring is bad. Cullen328 (talk) 03:52, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Knight Skywalker Please do not be a wikilawyer. 3RR is a guideline. The policy behind the guideline is that we are an encyclopedia and we are trying to create verifiable articles based on consensus. Even (or especially) if the other party appears to you to be acting in bad faith or against consensus, you should be trying to find a path to consensus. You should not be trying to "win" because it's not supposed to be a contest in the first place. Take a look at WP:DISPUTE for some ideas. Try harder to reach consensus on the article's talk page, for example by trying to isolate any actual points in contention from extraneous cruft while identifying points of agreement. -Arch dude (talk) 04:47, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Policy advice regarding WP:DE

edit

I have a question for persons with good familiarity with Wikipedia policy about the meaning, interpretation, and enforcement mechanisms for the "[an editor who] repeatedly disregards other editors' questions or requests for explanations concerning edits or objections to edits" provision of WP:DE policy.  Where should I ask this question? Deicas (talk) 05:05, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You could ask at Wikipedia talk:Disruptive editing? DonIago (talk) 05:13, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Doniago — Thank you. I created a section with my question at Wikipedia talk:Disruptive editing here — https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Disruptive_editing&type=revision&diff=1056342541&oldid=1051194723&diffmode=source Deicas (talk) 06:24, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cheatsheet

edit

Is there a cheatsheet available for wikipedia's rules? I will use it for quick reference? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muslim789 (talkcontribs) 07:25, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Muslim789 Don't be worried about following all the rules. Most of them are common sense things. We don't expect everyone to know all the rules(there are a lot). Just be willing to adjust your behavior if a rule is pointed out to you. The best thing to be aware of is the Five Pillars of Wikipedia. There is also a simplified rule list at this page. 331dot (talk) 07:34, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Muslim789, please see Help: Cheatsheet. Cullen328 (talk) 07:43, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I gave them the Big Graphic Welcome (template welcomeg), which covers a heck of a lot of what you need to know. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:08, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Muslim789: There's Wikipedia:List of policies and guidelines, which doesn't really function as a cheatsheet but contains a handy set of links to the "rules". Deor (talk) 00:30, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request to Edit a Page

edit

I am trying to edit a page that I manage but it comes with Extended confirmed protection, also known as 30/500 protection. Is there any way to edit it? The information on the page at the moment is outdated and hasn't been updated for a while. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Royaljetgroup.social (talkcontribs) 13:07, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Start a new discussion on the article's talk page, use {{editprotected}} and describe what you wish to be changed. Be sure to provide a reliable source to back up your request. Mjroots (talk) 13:28, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OP blocked for username and promotional editing. 331dot (talk) 14:10, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here you go. Granted the words aren't English, or even proper Latin, but there are 100 of them. Chuntuk (talk) 20:34, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Auto archiving problem

edit

Hi. I tried to add auto-achiving at Talk:Opioid_epidemic_in_the_United_States

According to the history of that page the archiving worked but the Archives are not visible on the talk page itself. Did I use the wrong formatting? Somedifferentstuff (talk) 21:08, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Somedifferentstuff: Archives are not displayed automatically or by User:MiszaBot/config. I have added {{Archives}},[1] fixed the archive counter and moved the archive from Talk:Opioid epidemic in the United States/Archive 3 to Talk:Opioid epidemic in the United States/Archive 1. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:25, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, thanks for that! -- Somedifferentstuff (talk) 02:59, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
