Unsupported character in article name

Hi. The actual name of the company is now C|T Group, but I had to create it as C/T Group, and could not even create a redirect with the "|" character in it. Question about notifying other editors of reverts and other disputes

Is it against Wikipedia policy to write out messages to notify other users on their talk pages about reverts and other disputes instead of using templates? Wasn't too sure about this. MrThunderbolt1000T (talk) 03:34, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@MrThunderbolt1000T: There is no policy that requires or even encourages templates. They are a convenience feature intended to make it easier for the notifying editor. A more carefully written and specific message is preferable. However, the language in the template has been reviewed, at least, so it is not likely to be more "hostile" in tone than is appropriate. Has the woman in the picture been asked if she wants to appear in Wikipedia page with her breasts showing? If not, that picture must be removed. Additionally, it's problematic to refer to a man as man but to a woman as female. You can see at c:File:Beautiful nude.jpg that there was a license check in 2017, confirming that the picture was originally uploaded to Flickr and released into the public domain. Wikipedia is not censored so we do not impose more stringent criteria for permissions on this picture of a person than we do on any other picture of a person. You use the assertion "must be removed." What is your source for this assertion? On the subject of language consistency, I agree with you. Editing Wikipedia

Is there a program for formatting Wikipedia? I wrote my first article with 24 footnotes in WORD 2019. However when I looked at other web sites on the "editing" page, my eyes glaze over with all the arcane formatting. It is almost like code - it is way over my head. So I'm wondering is there some sort of program or web site that will do that for me?...or a service? I did finally figure out that I needed to put those little equal signs == in to ask this question... but that is as far as I got.

But I tried to copy and paste for a test and it came up with the footnotes. I enabled "VisualEditor" (albeit I'm not sure what it is), went through the "wizard" > "practice in the community sandbox", "edit page visually"> and then I "published" the sandbox. It looked fine ..but how do I then submit it?

The Microsoft Office Word Add-in For MediaWiki didn't work with 2019 Office. A Google search brought no programs or add ins that might covert the WORD document to a Wikipedia formatting. AndreaSG50, the easiest way to edit Wikipedia like Microsoft Word is to use our visual editor. If you click 'Edit' On an article, click on the pencil icon and change it to an eye. This makes it look much more like how the article does, and you can use the toolbar up at the top instead of having to use wiki-markup. Hope this helps. @AndreaSG50: There are some solutions listed at Help:WordToWiki, including the plug-in you mentioned. Note that there's a link to a possible solution for later versions of Word in the last line at Help:WordToWiki#Microsoft Office Word Add-in For MediaWiki. I'll note that there is more to it than just the technical translation of, for example, Word's bold and italic markup to '''bold''' and ''italic''. There is the fundamental layout of the article with section headings, citations, Wikilinks to other Wikipedia articles, etc. Some of them have no or multiple equivalents in Word. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 07:43, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking the trouble to write, Billhagan. I believe you're writing about this. The problem is that anybody editing Wikipedia can claim to be anybody. Wikipedia can't use personal assurances (which it oddly calls "original research") and instead can only use published sources. You're describing something that happened in 2000; can you please point to a web page, newspaper article, etc, that confirms the change you'd like to make? @Billhagan: As the captain, you can probably get the correct information published in one of the aviation industry magazines if you cannot find an accurate reference. That publication will have the facilities to validate your identity and do all of trhe other stuff associated with vetting the information. You can then ask that another editor use that reference to update the article. You should not edit that article directly because you have what we call a conflict of interest. @Bublies Kommunikation: First of all, see Wikipedia:Translations. Then please read about the english Wikipedia's inclusion standart for companies. If it does not met them, we cant have an article here. Next, you want to create a draft and submit that for review. Advice on how to create a new article can be found at Help:YFA. – Well I did make a draft and I also publicated it – however I can't find it anywhere. The Swedish article about ESBE is to be found HERE and that article was reviewed and authorized in May 2020. Now I would like to make an English copy – which I did today. I pressed the Publish-button but I can't find the article. It's several hours ago. So … what went wrong? How do I upload a more recent photo to my wikipedia author page?

Hi, I uploaded a 2020 photo to wikimedia. The photo on my wikipedia is nearly 8 years old. I don't know how to update it though. The photo I uploaded is "Picture of Jill Neimark at desk". The correct way to specify book page numbers in citations if the book is cited more than once

I've added (what I think is) my first book citation (in Mo Foster) and expect to cite the same book a few more times in the same article, referencing different pages. Is the correct way to do this to use multiple references? Recently I saw a Wikipedia page (I don't recall which one) which used a single reference in such cases, and placed a superscript page number (or numbers) after the inline citation, eg Rhubarb[5]:67-68. @Misha Wolf: No, that format is not deprecated. See {{Rp}} (and {{R}}) for the documentation. IMO, it's much easier and more maintainable than the alternative – "short citations" (AKA "Harvard cites"). How to deal with trolling (apart from reverting it)?

Recently I noticed that the Warren Zevon article had had an edit that was clearly trolling. I edited it out, but I'm wondering if there's any further action that should be taken and, if so, what.

So Ahmed Ghanem the founder of the cultural program Egypt in the eyes of the world is not the same person in wikipedia english , so we should unlink the page Ahmed Ghanem (in wikipedia english )from other links with other wikipedias in other languages because is not the same person . Nominating multiple articles for renaming

There are a few articles where you can’t rename because of general relation with other articles. How can I nominate multiple similar articles for renaming similar to how it’s done with categories? But I, for one, do not want people to donate beyond what they can afford. If you are interested, you could support Wikipedia with your time, by becoming a regular editor and (for example) picking up some of the tasks at Community portal. Hi, I've noticed that the section header for today (2. September 2020) on the "current events" page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events) is broken, and does not show up, when compared to yesterday (1. September 2020). Embedding an existing Infobox musical artist into a (new) Infobox person

I'm working on page Mo Foster and need to add fields to the infobox which are not supported by Infobox musical artist. I've read Wikipedia:WikiProject Infoboxes/embed and have taken a look at a couple of examples, including Ian Watkins (Lostprophets singer), which is given as an example in Wikipedia:WikiProject Infoboxes/embed and also Elton John. You can embed another infobox using |module=. The first example above is where Infobox musical artist is embedded into another infobox - that may have confused you. You didn't say what "child" infobox you want to embed - that may also make a difference. I could help more if you provided more details. MB 23:22, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, both. Today I copied the infobox from Mo Foster to my User:Misha Wolf/sandbox and did the edits there, as I was less scared of messing it up! And they worked. I don't know what I did wrong yesterday. So I copied the amended infobox back to Mo Foster (and added some more fields). All seems good now.
