Regular English

edit

How do I change my default language back to normal English? I do not want Simple English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JanuariodaCunhaBarbosa (talkcontribs) 08:43, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

JanuariodaCunhaBarbosa, You are using the normal English Wikipedia right now. Just check whether the address on the top of your browser is simple.wikipedia.org or en.wikipedia.org. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 09:14, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vector Map

edit

Hello,

I would like to edit a map I made years ago for the Conrail wikipedia page. The link below shows a map used for the BNSF Railway and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the base map or any other high-quality North America map.

Naming of ships

edit

As I understand, name of the ships in the title should be displayed in italics while the prefix should not. I have created IRIS Taregh (901) and I am aware that {{DISPLAYTITLE}} can do that, but it seems to me that many article have it automatically done. Right? Can someone please help me? Pahlevun (talk) 15:15, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pahlevun: According to the documentation at {{Infobox ship begin}}, this one doesn't work automatically because "IRIS" isn't one of the common ship prefixes that it knows about. I've added a "display title" parameter instead. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:54, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Iranian warships use IRIS as prefix (IIS was used before 1979). Can we add those two prefixes to the template? Pahlevun (talk) 15:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pahlevun: I suggest you post a request at Template talk:Infobox ship begin. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:09, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title displayed weirdly using cite journal

edit

In global warming the titles of two older papers are displayed weirdly. It seems that part of the doi is included in the title. No url is given, but the title is a non-working link. The two articles are by Barry and Twomey. Anybody know what's going on and how to fix it? Femke Nijsse (talk) 16:14, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Done I think, please inspect. The DOIs were malformed. I managed to use auto load using proveit, used the DOI that was returned when I inserted a duplicate citation, then copy pasted that DOI line into the preexisting malformed entry and deleted the dupe I entered. I got lucky and it worked. I think NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 18:23, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Half done :(. The weird title is gone, but the DOI still doesn't lead to the article, neither in the link of the title or the doi. Femke Nijsse (talk) 20:08, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
PS I guess I didn't really fix it but Trappist the monk is in for the save. (Thanks TTM) NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 21:37, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can not move a page out of my sandbox to publish it.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by ALLBN (talkcontribs) 17:25, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To submit your draft for AFC review, add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:43, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ALLBN: In addition to this, I determined that many of the sources are the company's own website or Youtube. Please be aware that Wikipedia articles should mainly state what has been written in reliable and independent sources. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 17:47, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information, I struggled to find citations that were not from their website, but I found a few more. It says this page was suggested for a speedy delete. Do you know how I contest that? Or figure out what to change? I hope to make several pages and dont want all this work to be deleted. ALLBN (talk) 19:02, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you struggled to find reliable independent citations, the subject you chose probably wasn't notable enough to justify an article about it. If you don't want your work to be deleted, you should start by finding several reliable independent published sources with extensive discussion of your chosen subject; and if you can't, don't waste any more effort on it. Maproom (talk) 21:29, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I found over 40 independent sources (more than a lot of Wiki pages) but my page was still deleted. How do I recover it? Thank you. ALLBN (talk) 00:26, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't call the subjects own website independent, and youtube reliable. OP has opened a new section below. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 06:59, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About collection of extraneous information when Donating.

edit

Dear Wikipedia Team,

As a student from India, I use Wikipedia a lot and would love to donate. However, during this process of donation, I have been asked to submit my Street, my city, my PAN and my e-mail. I have donated to different organizations before and none have asked me for this kind of information. They just redirect us to a secure Payment Gateway and we are done. So, I don't really understand why the RBI has asked you to keep track of PAN because already in India most of the bank accounts have been linked with PAN. So, I am really not comfortable with sharing this information. Can you please just direct me to a secure payment Gateway?

Regards, A user since 10 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:204:A11B:2CBE:39E3:DD6B:8E9A:532 (talk) 19:43, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is a list of various ways to donate here: [1]. If none of those work for you, or if you have any problems or feedback, contact donate@wikimedia.org. RudolfRed (talk) 20:30, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Contest speedy deletion

edit

How do I contest a speedy deletion? It says there should be a button but it does not show up on my page.

I was in the process of revising my first page and it was deleted. I would like for it to be restored so I may correct it. It took a long time to locate all the sources and learn about this group. Please help me. Thank you. ALLBN (talk) 19:44, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ALLBN: If it is deleted already, there should be a reason on the page of why the user deleted, if you want to contest it you may post on the user's talk page. Cheers, CompassOwl (talk to me!) 22:13, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much CompassOwl, I was in the process of making my first page and it was deleted because it was not from a neutral point of view before I could revise it. I would like to fix it, it takes a long time to find all these sources. I have fixed it in my sandbox but now can not publish it. When I look at the editing page, it says only another publisher can fix this? I appreciate your time and assistance. ALLBN (talk) 00:23, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jill Briggs, we have nothing to do with Google's Knowledge Panels. There should be a feedback button somewhere near it where you can notify Google of changes. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:21, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Jill Briggs, since you also claim that you are a "Marketing Specialist" and are likely to have been employed or hired by Charleston Gazette-Mail, please acquaint yourself with Wikipedia's paid editor policy and disclose your affiliation.
Note: The IP address 216.12.119.190 made the change in question. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:26, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Malicious editing and information removal from Michelle Kosinski page

edit

An editor, Ponyo, has repeatedly vandalized the page-- adding false information and biased accusations, as well as removing factual, cited and easily checkable facts.

This has been done repeatedly in the last few weeks.

The most recent edits have removed the subject's most current employment information as well as relevant employment history.

Unclear why, but the insertion of biased and politically-charged material (in the form of long-since debunked accusations of false reporting), by this same user, seems to make the motivation rather obvious. 69.137.228.186 (talk) 22:04, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Have you discussed the matter on the article's talk page? If not then please do so. Fiddle Faddle 22:12, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here is much of what has been removed:

[article text removed]

I removed the text you copied from Michelle Kosinski or maybe the page history. It doesn't belong here on the help desk and caused problems with section headings and categories. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:15, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

radio& tv sitcoms

edit

Hi. These 2 sectios should be separate. I have spent over an hour, to find nothing. Looking for radio. Should be separate. Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.61.15.13 (talk) 22:10, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Which article are you referring to? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:26, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing this is not about an article, but about Category:Sitcoms. I think the OP wants the creation of Category:Radio Sitcoms and Category:TV Sitcoms as subcategories, so they can easily find information on radio sitcoms. OP: Try Category:Comedy radio programs. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:34, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to upload a photo

edit

I'm trying to upload a photo for our page, but it gets rejected, stating that I need to conform. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hekhouse (talkcontribs) 23:30, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Heckhouse: It seems to have worked, as the photo has been uploaded to Commons and is now on The Tearaways. I fixed the formatting for you. Since you refer to it as "our page" I assume you either are a member of the band or one of their employees. Please read our policy on conflict of interest editing and make the necessary disclosures. Also, if you are not the photographer who took the photo, you likely do not hold the copyright and cannot release it under the license Commons requires. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 01:14, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Upload my business

edit

Just need to upload content regarding our business. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Molding Messengers (talkcontribs) 23:45, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Molding Messengers: Wikipedia is not a place to advertise your buisness. However, if you would like to create an article about your company, you must write it in a neutral point of view and it's probably better to ask someone else to do it since you seem to have a conflict of interest.
