Creation of New Terminology

Amidst the global pandemic of COVID-19, given the selflessness and relentless dedications of Doctors, Nurses & various Healthcare personnel, I would like to propose and promote a day of observation in remembrance of those fallen angels and those still fighting the fight (even thereafter COVID-19).

That the international community, governments and WHO, in unison, stand in harmony and decree a date in our Gregorian Calendar to be known internationally as: “Doctors & Nurses Day” with acronym “DND”, punning with the term “Do No Disturb”, so that such a day be a day where internationally, the world give gratitude and mental peace of mind (rest) to all Doctors, Nurses & Healthcare Personnel.

I may not be writing in the best way to put forth my case or to promote my appreciation, so please help me launch this humble act of gratitude towards every single doctor, nurse and healthcare personnel. Thank you.

Problem with a simple template

I created a simple template, {{User:CJK09/Cite PRISM}}, to save me a bit of time when citing a particular website I cite commonly. When I try to subst it into mainspace (or anywhere) it doesn't recognize the parameters.

Input: {{subst:User:CJK09/Cite PRISM|lat=foo|lon=bar|date=baz}} outputs:

PRISM Climate Group[1]

I am hoping that I can give you this issue in the correct order: I first noticed this issue on the page Chagrin_Falls_(waterfall). I hovered over the link for the phrase "other terms" and got the following popup - Native Americans in the United States ⋅

Native Americans, also known as American Indians, Indigenous Americans and other terms, are the indigenous peoples of the United States, except Hawaii and territories of the United States. More than 570 federally recognized tribes live within the US, about half of which are associated with Indian reservations.

If I Click on the article name, I go to the article in question, if I click on the words "other terms" I am taken to the Main Page of the Encyclopedia. I spot-checked some of the other places that call up this page using the same popup and the same thing happened. Looking down in the code, the obedient thing does exactly what it is told to do and goes exactly where it is supposed to be. I do not want to want to send it to another awkward place so I will let smarter heads prevail.

If there was something particularly notable about Chief Chicago Limo that received significant third party media coverage, you could put in a connected editor edit request to add the info with the media coverage as a source, but I Googled you and don't see anything that might qualify. That suggests you're better off looking at Facebook or Yelp to advertise. If it's any consolation, few people are going to go to Wikipedia to find local transportation. Ref to unlisted ISBN

Hi I have found a reference to a book whose ISBN is not coming up with any results on Amazon, Google Books or Open Library.

How comprehensive are those listings?

Is it possible the book doesn't exist? Is it a valid reference?

I doubt if these are totally comprehensive-especially if the book is a pamphlet. I don't know if you have access to the British Library catalogue. Even that might contain gaps for small publications but it should be more reliable. Its always possib;le also that the book title may not have been described accurately-especially if the book has a long title.Spinney Hill (talk) 08:13, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible that the book doesn't exist, but it's also possible that the book does exist. None of the three sources you mention is under any kind of obligation to list everything that has been given an ISBN, and in my experience plenty is not listed. The first example that comes to mind is John Harding's Streets of Discontent, ISBN 978-0-692-09513-3. This is not listed by any of the three sources you mention; but there is the spine of my own copy in the photo that adorns the article; and if you suspect that I faked it as part of an elaborate hoax, I can point you to Worldcat, which does list it (whew) -- though it didn't when I created the article and first mentioned the book. (ISBN oddities don't end there, either: see what's written -- particularly in a footnote -- about Valokuvia = Photographs among books of Ismo Hölttö's photographs.) -- Hoary (talk) 09:07, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looking for such a book, I recommend to look for parts of the title or the author too. ISBNs are usually fine, but may be erroneous or not correctly listed in some rare cases. Looking for "Verdin School, Winsford, 1895–1995" brought me to this Google books entry (which isn't exactly full of details). I am too lazy for further research (you could dig deeper into the author name for example), but I guess the title exists. It may be a minor local publication, probably published by the school itself or by an associated organization or employee. GermanJoe (talk) 09:22, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did try something simular but without any returns, but obviously I got something wrong. That entry doesn't list an ISBN and the ISBN format in the reference seems to be ISBN10. So we are happy the book exists. Whether the ISBN is correct or not is another days work. Thank you. But it is published by the school, so that would self-published,. Not the greatest WP:RS, I guess. Search for new sections started by a user

Use your browser's search in page function. Searchign for "New Section" should cover most things. Some edits, most notably if created by user scripts, may have a different summary and can only be found by performing API queries to get a diff and then examining said diff view. Wrong information on NEFEW

There are currently two different pages on wikipedia about artist NEFEW, one in english, one in german. Both articles contain wrong information on the artist and I'd like both articles to updated.

All changes I tried to make have been reverted so far. Please note that I am the artist NEFEW and I'd be more than happy to offer identification.

I'd really appreciate if you could help me update the pages without having bots reverting the changes.

Family Member Page

Hello, we have a family member here from India with a page that we would like updated with some information. We have been working with the local group who helped put this page together to update but our refreshes keep being taken down. Wikiu08372 There are at least two reasons for this; one, the information is completely uncited to a published, independent reliable source. We can't just take your word for something, it needs to be published somewhere. I took the liberty of adding your edit summary to this discussion, as I think was your intention. It is more than "basic info", and that does not change the fact that it is not cited properly. change password

I am an infrequent editor, but just now I saw something I wanted to comment on the talk page about, so I logged in. A warning from Google popped up, saying my password had been breached on some other site and suggesting I change my password on this site. All well and good - but there is no place to change my password! It's not on my user page, and I can't find it anywhere else, either. I see helps and faqs that tell me what the process is, just no page where I can actually access the form and do it. What's going on here?

Well, I was going to upload a screenshot of my user page showing there is no 'change password' option there. but then I got this message:

"We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable. See the guide to make sure the file is acceptable and learn how to upload it on Wikimedia Commons."

@Natcolley: I guess you have the browser Google Chrome and the popup warning is from the browser. Otherwise it sounds odd. The browser is called "Google Chrome" or just "Chrome" but not "Google". The top of all Wikipedia pages have a Preferences link with a "Change password" button. Where did you see help pages without a link to either Special:Preferences or Special:ChangePassword? Assuming that Google Chrome uses the same implementation as firefox, this feature is called "breach alerts". Whenever a dump of some website's database appears on the web, Google chrome will check if you have a password saved for that site. If you have, it will check the last time this was updated. If it's after the breach date, nothing will happen. But if it is before, Chrome will show a warning for all websites that use the same password. This is because Hackers often try to use stolen login data elsewhere. Wikipedia of course is less the intended target, because other than having a clean account for rule violations, its useless. More dangerous are passwords of online banking and similar sites, as compromised accounts can cost you money. Last but not least: Don't use the same password everywhere. I said already that hackers tend to use a compromised password elsewhere. Since you already have some sort of password management system with Google chrome, at least for your account of internet sites should get different ones. A couple questions about having my own account

I have been using Wikipedia with an IP address primarily to ask questions in the Reference desk and make minor contributions here and there. First, if I create an account, would the contributions I have made as an IP address listed in the special contribution page be carried over to the page of my new account also?

Second, there is an existing unofficial consensus regarding the manual of style among a working group in the WikiProject Biography that I am quite invested in. However, that consensus is not clearly stated and and thus not universally enforced as well as being controversial. I would like to start a major discussion with other members of the project in the enforcement of this consensus. First: No, edits from your IP address can't be linked to your user account. Second: Some editors look down upon IP editing, so yes, you may have better luck in your discussions if you create an account. Other reasons for creating an account can be seen at WP:ACCOUNT. Displaying part italicised article title.

I've created an article, Royal Adelaide (1834), but my attempts to partly italicise the title have resulted in a big red message: "Warning: Display title "Royal Adelaide (1834)" overrides earlier display title "Royal Adelaide (1834)" (help)". Fixed by removing {{italic title|noerror|string=text in title|all=no}}.[2] This is example code with all parameters at Template:Italic title#Usage. You are not meant to copy it directly. You could just have written {{italic title}} with no parameters, since a part in parentheses is automatically omitted from italics. But the article uses {{Infobox sailing yacht}} which does this already, so there is no need to do anything. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:13, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm working on an article for an archaeological site in Wisconsin and I'd like to include photos of artifacts and site maps from an old 1960s era site report but it's copyrighted by the University of Wisconsin Press. When I go to their website they include instructions on how to request use of their materials. Basically you just send them an email telling them what you want to use, and what you will be using it for, and they will either grant permission or not. However when I look at the Wikipedia article "Requesting Copyright Permission" it mentions the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharalike 3.0 Unported License. Is that license relevant to the permission I'm trying to seek? Is this a license the University of Wisconsin Press would have to issue to me?
