Image in signature

edit

I have edited my signature to contain <math>. Does this count as an image (disallowed under WP:SIGIMAGE)? Also, when I asked this question on my talk page, the signature appeared twice from just four tildes. Will of course abandon signature if it's inappropriate. Thanks!   00:14, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is this page - above - OK? I added a ref. Thanks Srbernadette (talk) 11:14, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Srbernadette, In my view it needs several additional independent reliable sources cited. I have removed some puffery. Notability is not, IMO well established. DES (talk) 13:48, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY DELETED ARTICLE EDIT

edit

Hello,

I submitted an article about local DJ Raymond Carr which was apparently deleted in mid-July. I requested its undeletion as such: ==Draft:Ray Carr==

I, CVActor1, request the undeletion of this Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. CVActor1 (talk) 16:18, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

on the correct page and section as directed by your site, and was sent a response saying that a similar request had been previously submitted, but nothing had changed. (I have just done this again, so that you can find the request when you receive this e-mail). The changes had been made previously, but with no success, and I have repeatedly asked for help in editing this article so that TPTB, who accept and delete the articles would find it acceptable, but got very little help aside of repeating the same suggestions. I did get one offer to accept the article, but it would come along with a nomination by that same writer to delete it, so what good would that have done in the long run? The main statement was that Ray was apparently not notable enough for an article. There are 14 references listed on my submission, as well as 9 website links. Not all of the links are online any longer, but the ones that are not have specific dates/authors/titles and can be found in a library. I also have copies of these articles, should you need to see them. Those references still online have links included in their listings. There are still many articles on your site whose subjects have less references than my subject, yet they were accepted and published. When I brought up this point, I was told that just because those articles were published doesn't mean that future "non-notable" subjects should be added to the website.

I am a "greenhorn" when it comes to the type of editing being requested here, and no matter how many times I edited the article, it was still not accepted by Wikipedia. I asked on live chat (which I cannot find now, BTW) for some help with this, and still got the same answers. I have made a few changes since the last response (which I cannot find to respond to, BTW), and would like to resubmit it, but I would REALLY PREFER that someone work with me on the submission to get the article rewritten and notable enough to FINALLY get it accepted. I am attaching an updated text below.

PLEASE HELP ME FINISH THIS ARTICLE, so that Wikipedia will FINALLY publish it.

Thank you,

Sincerely, CVActor1

  • @CVActor1: First, please don't shout. Titles in all caps tend to put a lot of people off. Second, there is nothing anyone here can do. I see that you have already posted on the requests for undeletion board. An administrator will be along to evaluate it and decided what to do from there. You waited only one hour before coming here. Please be patient. Admins are real people with real lives outside of Wikipedia. One will be along to evaluate your request. --Stabila711 (talk) 16:40, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear All, good day. how to add picture to new article at Wikipedia from PC? thank you very much. TatyanaTatyana barinova (talk) 16:21, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Tatyana barinova: In order to upload images, users must be autoconfirmed first. So you must have 10 edits and your account must be four days old. Then, you should familiarize yourself with the copyright policies that are in place. Copyright violations are taken very very seriously around here and those that willfully commit copyright violations risk being blocked. In addition, violations are deleted on sight. Once all that is done and you are sure what you are uploading isn't going to violate any of the copyright policies you can use the File Upload Wizard to upload your file. In the meantime, you can look through Wikimedia Commons for any pictures that are already uploaded for use. --Stabila711 (talk) 16:31, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Tatyana. Stabila711's reply is right as far as it goes, but I don't think it is very helpful because it doesn't explain the copyright issues. The point is that (almost) all images in Wikipedia must be either in the public domain, or have been explicitly released by the copyright holder under a suitable Creative commons licence (that will allow anybody to use it for any purpose). If you took the picture yourself, you probably own the copyright, and can upload it and release it; if you found it somewhere on the internet, then it is almost certainly copyright, and unless you can track down the copyright holder and persuade them to license it, you may not use it. If it was taken by somebody you know, and they are willing to license it (note that giving permission to use it on Wikipedia is not enough) then they should follow the procedure in WP:donating copyright materials.
One respect in which Stabila711 is not correct is that uploading images to Wikimedia commons (which is where they should go unless there is a strong reason not to) does not require the account to be autoconfirmed: if you hold the copyright to the image, you can go straight ahead and upload it to Commons using the Upload Wizard. --ColinFine (talk) 19:54, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request for review

edit

I just made a request for a review of Nembrotha cristata on Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/Assessment but the wikiproject and everyone in it seems inactive. Could someone here fulfil my request? Thanks Tortle (talk) 16:47, 30 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, Tortle. I removed one ref which was a mirror of the wikipedia article, and you need to link or explain "dorid". Fuhghettaboutit has graded the article. Feel free to ask on my talk page if there is any way I can otherwise assist. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:01, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Jimfbleak. Another user assesed it officially but I appreciate the input. I added a link for dorid. It was nice meeting you. Thanks Tortle (talk) 08:05, 31 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

How to...

edit

Hello Wickypedia:

My name is Fernando and Im a member of Wickypedia since early this year. I have a question: How to ad a picture record to a subject on Wickypedia, to a name of a famous person, to an issue, etc I have found a reference to a movie from 1965, from France and have the official cover of the movie posted from that time and would like to added to the reference...

Would appreciate steps in order to do it

Thanks!

It is almost certain that the film poster is copyright and could only be used under limited circumstances, and it is VERY unlikely that illustrating an article about a person is one of them.
for the technical "how to" see the help guides here Wikipedia:Images#Tutorials_and_help. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:23, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
