FIFA World Cup all-time table

edit

The table does not reflect Greece's record from the current World Cup. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.137.101.174 (talk) 00:13, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably you mean All-time table of the FIFA World Cup (there is also FIFA World Cup All Time Top Scorers) but in any event the answer is so fix it. SpinningSpark 17:45, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

where's linkrot when you need it

edit

Does anybody know how to take care of the links here? Thanks. SW3 5DL (talk) 04:17, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, SW3 5DL. Does Link rot answer your question? --ColinFine (talk) 08:30, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello ColinFine, in the olden days, we could put link rot at the top of the article, then click the link on the template, and viola, link rot no more. Now, we get a message about templates. Which template? SW3 5DL (talk) 14:39, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A link to Reflinks was removed [1] because Reflinks was unavailable. A version at tools:~dispenser/view/Reflinks appears to be back a few hours ago based on Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Working again?, but I don't know whether it's permanent. I would prefer to know more before restoring the link in the template. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:48, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
PrimeHunter, Yes, the link has gone missing. I wasn't aware of the reason. If you can restore the link in the template, I'm sure most of us would be willing to pay you whatever you ask. It's such a handy link. I used it all the time. I'll try the link you've put up. Thanks. SW3 5DL (talk) 16:58, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That worked. Brilliant. Thanks. SW3 5DL (talk) 17:02, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Reflinks has been readded to the template. That part is trivial. Let's hope the tool continues to be operational. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:40, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ms shoes

edit

Can the article be edited in respect of information given on the dead references.can the dead references be deleted.Pleasethanks (talk) 06:03, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Pleasethanks. Since you presumably know which references are dead, you are best placed to edit the article MS Shoes; or else to post a details suggestion of what should be changed at Talk:MS Shoes. You might find Link rot helpful for how to proceed. --ColinFine (talk) 08:33, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dead links should not be deleted, but should rather be left in place for an editor who knows how to fix them. Deleting them is counterproductive because it removes the clues that enable other editors to restore the link. The lost page still remains the source of the information regardless so the citation should remain. SpinningSpark 17:50, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dr Bennett. I'm not clear whether you're asking for something, or which Wikipedia article this might refer to. But if you're here just to wish us well, I hope I am speaking for many contributors in thanking you for your well-wishes. --ColinFine (talk) 08:38, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Admin's activity

edit

Is there a site that tracks the activity of administrators of Wikipedia or any other Wiki of Wikimedia? The statistics I want to know are such as total number of article deletions, blocks, and any other admin's actions that a specific admin has performed.Pendragon5 (talk) 06:54, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pendragon5, Ask Collect. He knows a site for stats. SW3 5DL (talk) 07:27, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pendragon5 AdminStats general should answer your questions. --S Philbrick(Talk) 13:10, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Marriott

edit

I was trying to edit a page about me, Andrew Marriott, when I got a notice that what i changed was set back to the error. If not corrected, I would like a new page under my complete control.

Thanks,

Andrew Marriott — Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.187.101.239 (talk) 09:07, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The only edit you made to the Andrew Marriott page; this one was to vandalize it by changing Wrexham FC to Wreck em FC - so it is hardly surprising this was reverted. - Arjayay (talk) 09:19, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And you, or no one person, will ever have absolute control of any Wikipedia page. CTF83! 10:41, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment

edit

Every now and then someone shows up at this Help Desk and asks that an article be "locked in the approved version" or "under their complete control". That isn't the way Wikipedia works. No one has ownership of an article, and asserting ownership of an article is a way to be sanctioned. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:17, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You gotta have good faith in those circumstances though - requests for restricted editors only, and for pre-approval on edits etc, are almost always from somebody who has never edited here before, come across the page(s) in question either via Google or word of mouth and has no idea of Wiki rules and ettiquette. There's a difference between somebody coming here asking for help (and at the same time asking for the above) and somebody who just bombs into a page stating "This is how it's going down, all hail to me and my opinion.", occasionally interspersed with the de facto legal threat. The fact that an editor has come to the Help Desk rather than blunder in is always a plus point for them in my book. Chaheel Riens (talk) 08:04, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Flowchart or work-flow template

edit

Is there a template that I can use to show a flowchart or a multiple step workflow? Something with boxes and arrows should suffice. hujiTALK 16:12, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the WP:Graphics Lab would be able to help? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:24, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quick fix for references

edit

Hi there,

I've been busily updating Charlton, London, but I'm aware that a lot of my reference citations are in the bare minimum acceptable format. Is there a simple tool out there for converting them to something a bit more sophisticated? Many thanks. AlexTiefling (talk) 16:35, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting timing. There was, but it disappeared 1 July, to the consternation of many. Much discussion in progress, but no immediate help that I know of. See Wikipedia:Vpt#Toolserver_shut_down for more.--S Philbrick(Talk) 16:52, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@AlexTiefling: tools:~dispenser/view/Reflinks is now working but probably only a temporay fix and there will be issues as it is running on a virtual machine on the tool maintainer's personal machine over a Wi-Fi connection. --Glaisher (talk) 16:58, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! All sorted now, with a bit of search-and-replace to fix the site that Reflinks didn't deal well with. AlexTiefling (talk) 22:45, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections & Clarifications for Flocabulary

edit

Several details on the Flocabulary page are outdated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flocabulary

I submitted these edits on the talk page several months ago but haven't seen any of them addressed, so I'm reaching out here now.

1. HMH error

  • Error: The following sentence is incorrect:

In September 2007, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt released a line of Flocabulary products called 'Word Up' for teaching standardized test vocabulary.

  • Correction: HMH did not release the line; Flocabulary did. HMH then distributed Word Up in 10 states. This is clear when reading through the article already cited: http://www.inc.com/magazine/20100401/flocabularys-comeback.html This should also be corrected in the infobox where “Distribution” is listed as “Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.” The distribution should either be “Flocabulary” or not be included.

2. Breadth of Content

  • Error: The infobox lists “Nonfiction topics” as “vocabulary, United States history.”
  • Correction: It should read: “vocabulary, English language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and current events.” Likewise, the first paragraph reads:

a nontraditional approach to teaching vocabulary and United States history…

  • Should read: “...a nontraditional approach to teaching academic subjects for grades K through 12” [1] [2]

3. Nature of Product

  • Error: Flocabulary has moved from book production into a digital model. The following sentence should be changed to reflect that:

Flocabulary is a publishing company that produces educational hip hop music and accompanying books for use in the classroom.

  • Correction: Should read: “Flocabulary is an online library of educational hip-hop videos.” [3]

4. Old Logo

  • Error: The current image is the company’s old logo, which is no longer in use.

I assume that you are not making the edits yourself because you have a conflict of interest. The best way to draw attention to the request is to add {{Request edit}} at the top of the request. I have just done this on your behalf. This adds the page to a list patrolled by editors who service these requests and should be looked at soon. SpinningSpark 18:32, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
