As someone involved in the development of Emotional Intelligence (EI), I'm editing this page: Emotional Intelligence Quotient

I'm describing my role in the use of the term EQ and would like to link to my web-site that provides further information: http://www.keithbeasley.co.uk/EQ/eq2004.htm

I'm not sure if this is OK (as I received the 'external link' warning), and if it is, how to do it acceptably? Should it go in 'external links' rather than in the main text?

Sorry, I'm new to this!

Thanks

Keith — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keith Beasley (talkcontribs) 00:29, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Keith, thanks for asking. I´m sorry, but in short, don´t use it at all. Your website is not acceptable as a source for anything on Wikipedia, please take a look at Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 01:03, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to show I've permission

edit

I want to use some photos taken by a friend of mine. How do I indicate/prove I have his permission? Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 27 Kislev 5774 02:15, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Try Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:36, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) You need to get his permission in the correct form and email it to the Wikimedia Foundation, or ask him to email it directly. You can upload the photos in the meantime, and give them filenames, but you need to tag them to show that permission is pending, so they don't get deleted. Your friend should cite the filenames in his permission, so the email can be matched to the uploaded files. Once the emailed permission has been received and processed, the photos will be approved for use in articles. A brief description of how to do this can be found at Commons:Commons:Permission#Using_OTRS_to_gain_permission. -Karenjc (talk) 09:54, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to publish an article

edit

I created an article and edited it for a few times in Sandbox. But I can not publish it. Any help to teach me how to publish it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjfarm (talkcontribs) 02:17, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

When you save it in the sandbox there should be a box at the top that has a bolded hyperlink that takes you to a page with a short message where you click "Save page" (don't type anything on that page, just click). Rage Against The Machine

edit

If you look at the bottom of political views, it says "Rage Against The Machine spent nine years in jail for raping children and women." Now, I'm no social scholar or up on current events, but I'm pretty sure none of the members, let alone the entire band, raped anyone, let alone children. I would consider citing the source for that if you're going to keep it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.31.171.69 (talk) 02:43, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Elizabeth Whittall

edit

Winner of the Lou Marsh Trophy.

There is an error on her birthdate. She was actually born in 1936 not 1937. Being her daughter, I know for certain what year she was born. For verification purposes, my name is Line Couvrette. She was married to my father, Yves Couvrette and had me, my sister, Helene Couvrette, and my brother, Marc Couvrette. Marc died at the age of 21 in a motorcycle accident. Helene and I are still alive and well. My mother does have four grand kids by my sister, three girls and one boy, Natasha, Tiffany, Jesse and Tessa.

Thanks. I have fixed Beth Whittall.[1] The infobox to the right already said 1936 but two other places said 1937. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:19, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed your personal contact details per the header at the top to protect them from abuse: this page is highly visible on the internet. - Karenjc (talk) 09:19, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am Alice Whitcomb Clark. The earlier Alice Clark was not Alice Whitcomb Clark

edit

I am a historian and social analyst of India. I also write about women. I'm alive now! You can find me online with the name Alice W. Clark. The earlier women's historian did not have my middle name. Plus, she is dead. Please correct your Wikipedia listings! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.38.21.242 (talk) 03:33, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The only mention of an Alice Whitcomb Clark that I could find was in List of feminists. I've emended that to correctly point to the article Alice Clark. Does that solve the problem? Deor (talk) 05:52, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Alice Whitcomb Clark had already been moved to Alice Clark. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:34, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My words are missing

edit

This is Eden Cheng. I don't know why my words under In Taiwan in four pillars of Destiny are missing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eden Cheng (talkcontribs) 07:10, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This would be better discussed on the Talk Page of the article concerned. Britmax (talk) 09:06, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

editing the page on Sir William Johnson

edit

I am trying to edit the page about Sir William Johnson and I have gone to considerable trouble to get my facts correct but it stopped allowing me to edit Why could this be? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aitchgcee (talkcontribs) 14:48, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Contributions/Aitchgcee shows you have edited the article both before and after posting here. Do you still have a problem editing? The content of your edits is very problematic and all of it should probably be reverted as original research but that's another matter. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:31, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the whole paragraph created by 86.160.63.69 and enlarged by Aitchgcee, because it
  1. Is barely relevant to the article
  2. Lacks all references
  3. Was partly written in the first person: "I am told I cannot actually quote any of this correspondence", "the current "Baronet" .. has written to me".
  4. As PrimeHunter points out, it constitutes original research.

Mathematical notations

edit

I have to post a question in Computers and IT desk which involves giving the reader some math background. What I need is to give formulas of a known polynomial with two subscripts (indices) and one variable (Greek letter!), the notation of Spherical Harmonics, a double integral, and perhaps even a geometric picture with a sphere and such. Where can I learn how to display those things? How can I print them? Thanks2601:7:7680:626:55A8:CF63:583E:F202 (talk) 19:27, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Translation. By the way, it's en.wikipedia.org and de.wikipedia.org, sometimes referred to as enwiki and dewiki. We don't use .de and .com domains. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:34, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Connect Pictures with Text

edit

How do you reconnect pictures with the text of an article. The text explained the items and then the pictures were the examples. Someone thought that they should put all the pictures together on the side and now the pictures do not line up with the text paragraphs. I tried to undo it but the message was that I have to manually do this. How do I bring the pictures back into the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dennisdownes (talkcontribs) 21:51, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This July 14, 2013 edit moved the images to the right of the article to improve text flow. That changed the article from this, which was more of a gallery description than a Wikipedia article. I don't think returning to that gallery description is a good idea. All of the images on the right hand side of Trail trees could be improved by using |right| and |left| in various images. Some of the images can be reduced in size using 200px and 100px. The overflow of some of the images can be put in <gallery> File:Example.jpg|Caption1 File:Example.jpg|Caption2 </gallery> at the bottom of the article text. About half of the images should be deleted. -- Jreferee (talk) 23:19, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File:1954 Dodge Coupe-Utility.jpg

edit

In attempting to rename the above to "File:Dodge Coupe-Utility.jpg", I have inadvertently renamed only the Talk page for this. How can I rename the actual page please? My reason for these changes is as shown on the Talk page which is now at "File talk:Dodge Coupe-Utility.jpg" GTHO (talk) 22:29, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You should be able to just move File:1954 Dodge Coupe-Utility.jpg to File:Dodge Coupe-Utility.jpg. You may want to review WP:NFCCP 1. and 8. -- Jreferee (talk) 23:07, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Only administrators and file movers can move files. See Wikipedia:File mover. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:16, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. How should I go about having an "administrator" or "file mover" move this file please? GTHO (talk) 07:06, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you can use Template:rename media to request the move. --ColinFine (talk) 09:18, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
