- Working better with Wikipedia
Sound and Vision and the volunteers of the Dutch Wikimedia chapter have been working together closely since 2009. During this period, thousands of videos, sound recordings and pictures from the Sound and Vision archive have been uploaded and used to enrich Wikipedia articles. In 2014, Sound and Vision had its very own GLAM-wiki coördinator who worked for a year to boost the existing collaboration and equip the broader organization to work with Wikimedia projects. The purpose of this project is to make the Sound and Vision collections and in-house expertise available to a wider audience, whilst at the same time increasing contextual knowledge about the collection. - Content donation of 70 broadcasts of Radio Herrijzend Nederland
After the successful upload of the Radio Orange collection, Sound and Vision has now also made over 70 broadcasts of Radio Herrijzend Nederland available through Wikimedia Commons. Radio Herrijzend Nederland was the post-war provider of information as the Netherlands were being rebuild after the war. Read more... (in Dutch)
- Content donation of 200 broadcasts of Radio Orange
In approaching the commemoration of World War II and the liberation on May 4th and 5th, Sound and Vision has made close to 200 radio broadcasts of Radio Orange (Radio Oranje) available on Wikimedia Commons. Read more...(in Dutch)

- Blogpost: Sound and Vision on the future of video on Wikipedia
In his 2010 whitepaper “Video for Wikipedia and the Open Web”, Peter B. Kaufman already noted that of the millions of files hosted on Wikimedia Commons, only a couple thousand were moving imagery. Four years later the situation is still pretty much the same: With over 22 million files on Commons, only 0.22% consists of video! Read more... (in English)
- Contentdonation of over 1.500 videos
Building on the success of previous uploads of video to Wikimedia Commons, the media repository of Wikimedia, Sound and Vision has uploaded another 1.500 video's. By doing so the institute firmly establishes itself as the largest contributor of video on Wikimedia Commons, its content making up for 8% of the entire availability of video on Wikimedia Commons. - Prizes for the Foundation of Nature Footage have been awarded
Last June, Sound and Vision uploaded a collection of video's of birds to Wikimedia Commons. The volunteers working on Wikipedia have used these video's in many articles during a video sprint, where people could win small prizes when adding video's from this collection in relevant articles. - The Foundation of Nature Footage makes availble unique video's of birds
The footage, over 500 video's, filmed by professional filmer Marc Plomp, will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The footage is available under a CC-by-SA license which allows people to reuse and edit these video files.Read more (in Dutch)...
- Blogpost: Successfull editathon of pre-war Dutch music
On Saturday June 14th, Sound and Vision organized an editathon about pre-war Dutch music. Over 25 people gathered to write Wikipedia articles about artists, record labels, conductor, orchestra's and bands from the period 1900-1940. Read more (in Dutch)...

- Sound and Vision sees Wikipedia as an important platform to improve the visibility and reach of her collections and knowledge, not as a platform to promote Sound and Vision as an organization.

- Make open content available on Wikimedia Commons through content donations
- Train Sound and Vision’s employees in the functions and possibilities of the Wikimedia platforms.
- Encourage the relevant use of knowledge and mediafiles that Sound and Vision can provide
- Acquaint Wikipedians with the work and collection of Sound and Vision
In the past Sound and Vision has sought to cooperate with Wikimedia on a more incidental basis. The organization was actively involved in the organization of the editathons organized around the Europeana Fashion project, and more recently in the editathons linked to Europeana Sounds. There have also been content donations to Commons. Sound and Vision seeks close cooperation with Wikimedia Nederland, but also with other cultural heritage institutions, like the Dutch Royal Library, Dutch National Archives and smaller AV-archives.
About the GLAM-wiki coördinator edit
Jesse de Vos (User:85jesse) has been employed by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision since January 2011. He started as a research intern looking into current trends in the documentary scene. As an embedded researcher employed by the VU university he then researched long-term preservation of interactive audiovisual productions. After having worked on te registration of Dutch records from the first half of the 20th century he worked as a GLAM-wiki coordinator for a year. He continues to be an advisor for all things Wikimedia-related.
