Developing Open Knowledge
- The resident met with the George Bain curator of the Groam House Museum about developing a more substantial piece of work with the museum toward the end of the project. The resident has agreed a date to meet with the museum board to advocate for the use of open knowledge in a museums context. The George Bain collection is a Recognised Collection of National Significance to Scotland and would be a great addition to the Commons.
- The resident met with staff at the Glasgow Women's Library (also a holder of a Recognised Collection) in advance of the editathon on 30 March to discuss options for image uploads and future work.
- The resident met with a member of staff from the Glasgow School of Art, (also a holder of a Recognised Collection) in advance of the editathon on 25 May.
- The resident continued to provide support to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders' regimental museum intern on developing their project around their collection.
Develop, involve and engage WMUK volunteers
- An editathon was held at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery on Saturday 5 March. Of the artists whose work is displayed as part of Modern Scottish Women, and as a direct result of this set of editathons, there is only 1 artist not now represented on Wikipedia.
- An editathon was held at the Glasgow Women's Library on Wednesday 30 March. Numbers were slightly lower than expected but this allowed for in depth and tailored training.
- The resident is working with WMUK office staff to develop an ask for more volunteers in Scotland.
Reducing barriers to accessing open knowledge
- The resident spoke at the Digital Cultural Heritage Research Network on 22 March, discussing what had been achieved in the first 12 months of the residency, and expounding the value of the skills / infrastructure / attitude model for success in digital & open knowledge projects in cultural organisations. One follow up meeting has been scheduled.
- The resident provided information to two organisations about setting up their own Wikimedian in Residence project.
- The 12 month report, including data from a number of organisations who had been involved in the first 12 months, was finished and circulated.
Developing, supporting & engaging with other Wikimedia & Open Knowledge communities
- The resident spoke at the Scottish Libraries and Information Council Digital Champions meeting on 29 March, discussing The Library and Wikimedia.
- The resident volunteered to assist in the production of a leaflet to send to GLAMs interested in open knowledge.
- The MGS & University of Edinburgh residents, as well as Gill from NLS discussed work to be taken on in the future.
